UPDATE JACKSON Tenn – At tonight’s Jackson Madison County School Board meeting the body delayed on one calendar change and passed a second.
David Clifft brought two motions before the board regarding the upcoming school calendar. Â His first was to add November 11, Veteran’s Day, as an official school calendar holiday when it falls on a week day. Â The motion was seconded by George Neely. It failed by a 5 – 4.
Bob Alvey made a motion that the Calendar Committee survey faculty, teachers, parents, and community for input before making any recommendations. Then bring a recommendation back to the board.
School Board Renames Winter Break to Christmas Break
The second motion was to rename the holiday Winter Break to Christmas / News Year’s Break on the school calendar. Â The motion was seconded by Bob Alvey and passed 5 – 3-1, Alvey, Bratcher, Clifft, Campbell, Head (YES) Â Hampton, Mays, Murray, (NO) Neely (abstained).
