Union women’s basketball season ends in NCAA D2 National Semifinals

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Union University women’s basketball team fell 68-50 to California State University Dominguez Hills Wednesday night in the 2025 NCAA D2 WBB Elite Eight National Semifinals. Union, the 7-seed in the Elite Eight, ended its season at 33-4 overall and also had a 19-game winning streak snapped. Third-seeded Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 36-1 on the season.

This season, Union won its 10th Gulf South Conference Regular Season Title, seventh GSC Tournament Title, and second NCAA D2 WBB South Region Title. Union also made the national semifinals for the second time in their time in the NCAA D2.

For head coach Mark Campbell, he earned his 775th career win in the national quarterfinals. In his 26 years as head coach at Union, Campbell has advanced to the national semifinals in 13 seasons.

Campbell said, “Sports gives us the opportunity to build quality relationships in a short amount of time. This team has grown more than any team I have ever coached over the last seven months. We knew they had good hearts and good character, but this group has exceeded all expectations. It has been a privilege to coach this group. It is one of the more memorable years I have been blessed with.”
