Union men earn runner-up finish at Hillcat Classic, three Bulldogs in top-10
OWASSO, Okla. – The Union University men’s golf team posted a second place finish at the Hillcat Classic hosted by Rogers State University. The 3-round event was played at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club and featured nine teams with 60 golfers.
Union fired a three round total of 885 (205, 287, 293). Rogers State won the event with an 871 (298, 278, 295). Union’s third round total of 293 was the best score of the round. Missouri Southern finished third, Drury fourth, Fort Hayes State fifth, Oklahoma Wesleyan sixth, Lincoln University seventh, Newman University eighth, and Northwestern Okla. State ninth.
Union had three top-10 finishers including runner-up JJ Zimmer with a 212 (74, 71, 67). Zimmer’s 67 was the best score in the third round and the second best score of the entire tournament. Zimmer was just two strokes off the medalist score of 210.
Timothy Pinkston finished T5 with a 223 (76, 69, 78). Blake Wolfer finished T10 with a 226 (10, 74, 72).
Up next for Union is the Union University Spring Bulldog Bash, March 28-29 at the Canebrake Country Club in Athens, Ala.
Union women’s golf fifth place, Emma Korte sixth at Hillcat Classic
OWASSO, Okla. – The Union University women’s golf team posted a sixth place finish at the Hillcat Classic hosted by Rogers State University.
The 2-round event was played at the Bailey Ranch Golf Course and featured nine teams with 59 golfers.
Emma Korte was Union’s top golfer with a T6 place finish with a 159 (86, 73).
Missouri Western’s Allycia Gan won the event with a 152 (77, 75). Korte’s 73 in the second/final round was the second best score of the round.
Union’s team finished fifth with a 672 (352, 320).
Other Union finishers included Aubrie Cagle T19 with a 165 (83, 82), Karlie Alexander 26th 169 (87, 82), Kallie Robertson T34 173 (92, 81), McKinnley Korte 40th 175 (91, 84), Cecily Berry T41 176 (91, 85), and Nicole Taylor T43 177 (92, 85).
