Union holds off Valdosta State to win school’s first NCAA South Region title

A pair of free throws by Chelsey Shumpert on Union University’s final possession gave the Lady Bulldogs a 74-73 win over Valdosta State, and a NCAA Division 2 South Region title, Monday.

Union (31-3) advances to their first NCAA Elite Eight, and opens play in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Monday, March 19.

Shumpert, who was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, finished Monday’s game with 30 points, and broke the Gulf South Conference’s single season scoring record in the process.
