If the first 15 minutes of early voting is any indication, the turnout for the 2018 General Election in Madison County will be heavy.
Voters were lined up outside the Madison County Agricultural Complex Auditorium at 311 North Parkway before voting began at 9 a.m., Wednesday.
“We’re really pleased with our early voter turnout this morning,” said Kim Buckley, administrator of elections, “We had 78 people to vote in the first 15 minutes, so that’s really on the level with the President Election, so we’re really excited about that.”
Buddy Glassman, a retired Jackson businessman, was one of the first to cast a ballot, Wednesday.
“I always like to vote on the first day,” Glassman said, “They do a good job here, and it’s always good to see a good turnout.”
Glassman said there are several reasons a large turnout is expected for the General Election.
“There’s a lot of advertisements and discussions, and (President) Trump has created a lot of interest in this election,” Glassman said, “A lot of people are for him, and a lot of people are against him. It’s caused a lot of people to get interested in politics.”
Early voting will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays – through November 1, at the Madison County Agricultural Complex Auditorium, 311 North Parkway.
The General Election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Voters are required to present a photo identification – issued by the State of Tennessee or the United States government.
You may review a sample ballot at the election commission’s website which is www.madisonelections.com. If you have moved since the last time you voted, you are encouraged to vote early and update your address at that time.
You may also update your address or check your voter registration status at the website.
