What started as a convoy movement to protest vaccine mandates for crossing the United States border from Canada – that would evolve into a protest about COVID-19 mandates in general – made its way through Jackson earlier Thursday.
Locals gathered at exit 76 on Interstate 40 – one of three routes nationally – to show support for the Freedom Convoy 2022 that is making its way eastward towards the nation’s capital in Washington.
A small team of western Canadian truckers, family members and friends decided in mid-January to launch the protest, with truckers and supporters converging in the capital at Ottawa in a peaceful protest.
A series of protests and blockades in Canada against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and restrictions, called the Freedom Convoy by organizers, began in early 2022.
