Trey Smith will be guest speaker at 34th annual Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame

The Jackson-Madison County Sports Hall of Fame Board and West Tennessee Healthcare are pleased to announce Trey Smith as the keynote speaker for its 34th annual induction ceremony, April 18th at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Ranked as the No. 1 college football recruit in the nation by ESPN in 2017, the University School of Jackson grad earned a position as a starting offensive lineman for the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

For his play as a true freshman, Smith was named to the Associated Press All-SEC second team, among other honors.

“We are excited to have someone of Trey’s athletic caliber and humility to speak to student athletes about perseverance and succeeding in the college environment,” said Sports Hall of Fame Board President Tyreece Miller.

In addition to inducting Joe North, Ellen Renfroe, Brandon Rowland, Dexter Williams, and Jeff Wyatt into the Sports Hall of Fame, the Board will award over $10,000 in scholarships to a number of student athletes and recognize student athletes from all the Jackson high schools and colleges.

“These young people are about to transition from high school to college and could benefit from Trey’s experience,” Miller added.

The banquet will begin at 6:30 p.m., April 18th followed by the induction ceremony. Tables are $400 and individual tickets are $60.

They may be purchased by contacting Board Treasurer Beth Sedberry at (731) 616-8558.
