According to WNWS.COM, here’s the top 10 most visited news stories for 2018. The date of the story appears beside the headline in parenthesis.

1) One dead after dump truck flips onto Vann Drive off Interstate 40 (February 26)

One person has died following an automobile accident on the east side of Vann Drive, near State Farm Insurance.

The driver of a dump truck was headed west on Interstate 40, went through a fence, and hit a culvert, which caused the truck to flip.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The Tennessee State Highway Patrol is reconstructing the scene, and drivers are urged to avoid the east side of Vann Drive.

2) Jackson Christian student, 13, dies in jet skiing accident (June 29)

Ryder Lewis, 13, a student at Jackson Christian, was killed in a a jet skiing accident on Tims Ford Lake in Moore County about noon, Thursday.

An eighth grader, Lewis was riding a tube that was being pulled by a jet ski. During the ride, the tube crashed into a dock.

Ryder Lewis is the son of Dr. Chris Lewis and Tracey Williams-Lewis of Jackson.

3) Two dead after Medical Center EMS ambulance wreck on I-40 in Nashville (November 30)

Nashville police have released the names of the two victims in Friday night’s deadly single-vehicle ambulance accident.

The patient, 36-year-old Nyema Jackson, of Jackson, and Medical Center EMS paramedic, 36-year-old Zachary Pruitt, of Humboldt, were taken by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They died at the hospital.

The ambulance was transporting Jackson from Jackson General Hospital to a Nashville hospital when the accident occurred.

According to the preliminary accident report, the patient and the medic riding in the back of the ambulance were ejected from the rear of the vehicle after it struck a rock wall.

Weather and excessive speed are said to have contributed to the accident. Police say the driver lost control and left the roadway and struck wall on I-40 near the Charlotte Pike exit. The driver told police the ambulance hydroplaned.

The ambulance driver is identified as 55-year-old Deborah Schichtel, of Holladay. Police said Schichtel received non-life threatening injuries and was also taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

4) Man held at CJC for having sex with an animal, burglary and evading arrest (May 7)

Michael Ray Jemison has been charged with two counts of sexual activity with an animal, two counts of burglary and evading arrest, according to Madison County Sheriff John Mehr.

Jemison is being held at the Madison County Criminal Justice Center, and his bail has been set at $75,000.

5) Woman, 27, faces first degree murder charge in death of 3-year-old at Cane Creek Road residence (October 31)

According to a press release, after consulting with District Attorney General Jody Pickens, Madison County Sheriff John Mehr, has announced that Chasity Yancey has been charged with First Degree Murder in Perpetration of Aggravated Child Abuse and/or Neglect and an additional count of Aggravated Child Abuse and/or Neglect.

The defendant willingly placed two juvenile children in a locked and barricaded room, in an attempt to deprive them of food and water, leading to the malnourishment and dehydration and the death of one of the children.

Yancey, age 27, was arraigned today in Madison County General Sessions Court and is currently being held without bond.

On October 30, 2018, at approximately 5:20 p.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 146 Cane Creek Road to assist EMS with an unresponsive three-year-old female child. Upon arrival, deputies observed EMS performing CPR on the child.

The child was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. After receiving consent to search the house, deputies quickly located a four-year-old child.

She was transported by EMS to the same hospital and then sent to LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis for further medical attention.

Upon investigation, it was also determined that these two children had been repeatedly subjected to this type of neglect for approximately one year. An autopsy was conducted on the deceased child in Nashville.

6) One person shot during home invasion in mid-town Jackson (February 14)

A resident of 283 Edenwood Drive, was transported to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, after suffering gun shot wounds in a home invasion, early Wednesday morning.

The Jackson Police Department responded to a call at 12:50 a.m., in the 200 block of Edenwood Drive, which is near Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The suspects are two black males, who were seen running from the area.

7) Interstate 40 & Highway 45 Bypass – Bridge work closing lanes (April 20)

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will have major lane closures this weekend along I-40 and the US Highway 45 By-Pass to place steel bridge beams over the interstate.

The upcoming closures are as follows:

I-40 east and westbound traffic will be detoured to the on and off ramps at Exit 80 (US Highway 45 By-Pass).

The US Highway 45 Bypass south and northbound at the interchange will be closed to erect steel beams for the US Highway 45 By-Pass bridge over the interstate.

8) Bill Way retires (January 11)

Bill Way has decided to retire as a News/Talk 101.5 FM show host.

After more than 50 years in the media business, including 24 years as host of the Bill Way Show, Bill says he is eager to retire “…from the world I have lived in all of my life.”

During a three-month sabbatical, Bill and his wife, Susan, enjoyed traveling.

In a note to management Bill wrote, “For the first time in our entire married life we can do whatever we want to do whenever we want to do it… I welcome the tremendous opportunities the coming years will bring.” With a touch of nostalgia, Bill added; “What a run we had.”

NOTE: Bill Way passed away Tuesday, Nov. 27.

9) Madison County Sheriff’s Department deputy arrested (January 20)

Madison County Sheriff John Mehr confirms a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s department has been arrested.

Deputy Shane Paar was allegedly accused of simple domestic assault, involving his son.

The incident occurred at 11:06 this morning at 61 Madelyn Cove in Oakfield.

Deputy Paar has been placed on Administrative leave, suspended with pay, and he will be arraigned in Court Monday.

The case is still under investigation.

10) Accidents mounting on Lambuth Boulevard; drivers leaving notes (January 13)

Due to snow and ice, automobiles parked on Lambuth Boulevard have been hit by other drivers.

Because of the of the weather conditions, people hitting the vehicles are leaving notes.
