Sears closing Old Hickory Mall location
Company officials could not be reached for comment, but Sears, once recognized as an anchor retailer at the Old Hickory Mall, is closing.
The Jackson store at 2021 North Highland Avenue, is one of 80 stores nationwide the parent company announced it would close, Friday.
Once the world’s largest retailer, this latest round of closings will leave the company with about 400 stores – or an average of eight per state.
Five years ago, Sears had 2,073 stores.
Sears filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October.
Baker Bros. BBQ opens at 215 W. Main St.
It didn’t take long for a new restaurant to open at 215 West Main Street in downtown Jackson.
Baker Bros. BBQ opened December 19.
Business hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.
A few menu items include BBQ sandwiches, smoked chicken sandwiches, loaded nachos, BBQ platters, St. Louis style ribs, Southern fried fish, chicken wings, salads, loaded fries and giant stuffed potatoes.
Former tenant West Alley Bar-B-Q & Smoke House vacated the facility Nov. 28, and is preparing to open at 1110 Vann Drive in The Columns.

Barricades gone – road near Kroger at West Towne Commons re-opens
Barricades, which have been in place near Kroger at 41 Stonebrook Place since the middle of August, have been removed.
The barricades were placed after a water line broke creating what appeared to be sinkhole behind the supermarket in West Towne Commons off Walker Road.
