Tony Shutes was recognized Friday for what he does best – winning high school basketball games at the University School of Jackson.
Shutes was commended by the Tennessee Senate for winning game No. 500 as head coach of the USJ Lady Bruins.
Shutes, who won his 500th game, January 27, was presented a proclamation by Jimmy Eldridge, state representative from Jackson.
The proclamation states that “under Coach Shute’s leadership, his teams have amassed seventeen district championships and seven regional championships, made eighteen sub-state appearances, and advanced to the state tournament championship game twice.”
Shutes (502-229) was honored as the 2016-17 Tennessee Basketball Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year and was named the District Coach of the Year every year from 1994 through 2005.
