JACKSON, Tenn.—On Thursday, the Tennessee State Board of Education convened during a special called electronic meeting to enact emergency rules in response to the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis.
The new rules included changing required credits from 22 to 20 credits for graduating high school seniors.
In addition, districts were instructed that SAT and ACT requirements will be waived and statewide testing, which includes TNReady assessments, are suspended for the 2019-2020 school year.
According to the rules passed, students are not allowed to receive a grade lower than what they had on March 20. Districts are also allowed to take attendance during distance learning, but are not permitted to issue unexcused absences or report truancy if a student does not participate.
