The amount of scholarship funds presented by Leadership Jackson increased by $4,500 when Leadership Jackson’s Alumni Association awarded $1,500 each to 2019 high school graduates Kerrington Peoples, Katherine Ryan and Faythe Watkins during a luncheon at the Jackson Energy Authority’s Training Center.
Peoples, a graduate of Liberty High School, will attend Middle Tennessee State University; Ryan, who graduated from University School of Jackson, will enroll at Rhodes College in Memphis, and Watkins, a Trinity Christian Academy graduate, will attend Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
“Part of Leadership Jackson’s Alumni Association’s mission is to support emerging leaders through educational programs,” said Jack Mathis, president, Leadership Jackson Alumni Association, “The Judy Renshaw Leadership Jackson Alumni Association Scholarship allows us to invest directly in education for the future leaders of Jackson, as well as show them support from their community.
“We are extremely proud of these recipients and look forward to seeing their growth in education and leadership.”
Since the programs inception in 2014, $23,500 in scholarships has been awarded.
“This scholarship really means a lot to me,” Faythe Watkins said, “My parents … we’ve been through a rough patch this past year, and it’s been really good to have support from my community when I go off to college. I’m super excited and very thankful for the scholarship I was given.”
Watkins will major in Mechanical Engineering.
The Judy Renshaw Leadership Jackson Alumni Association Scholarship was named in honor of Judy Renshaw in 2013 for her more than 35 years of developing the Leadership Jackson program.
