The retired director of Madison County Emergency Management and his wife continue to recover after they were diagnosed with coronavirus, March 26.

“Wendy is fine with very mild symptoms, and I’m still a little weak,” Marty Clements said, “We started self-quarantine March 20 and took extra precautions since I had been in Memphis.

“My wife had been working from home since then to make sure she kept her co-workers safe.”

Marty said the virus was detected following a trip to the doctor’s office after Wendy had taken a spill.

“When I took my wife to have her leg checked out from a fall she had, they stopped me at the door, checked my temperature and referred me to the Jackson Clinic for further examination,” Marty said, “… they did a COVID check, and we got results back four days later.”

Marty said he has not been on a ventilator.

“I didn’t have any breathing problems, and we haven’t taken any medication,” Marty said, “But I feel weak.”

Marty said he’s thinking his and Wendy’s self-quartantine ends Friday.

“April 10,” Marty said, “No one knows if we will still be contagious for several days afterwards, so we will still practice social distancing.”

Marty hopes what he and Wendy are going through will help others.

“Please everyone – take it serious, Shelter-in-Place and don’t spread it,” Marty said, “This is a life and death event.

“Listen to the Health Department, the (Jackson-Madison County) Mayors, and Emergency Management.

“We have been lucky, but a lot of others haven’t been. Think about how awful it would be if you were the cause of someone getting it and dying.

“Prayers for all First Responders, health care workers and those who have contracted this.”
