The USJ Bruins began regional play this week with a 3 game gauntlet against TCA, JC, and TRA.

The Lady Bruins had dominant performances in all three outings, starting with a 57-24 victory vs TCA.

On a tough shooting night for both teams the Bruins showed incredible tenacity and determination all game long smothering the Lions offense and making it almost impossible for them to score. The ability to play defense at this level is a great example of all of the different ways the Lady Bruins can capture a win.

The Lady Bruins then played JC on Thursday, and they won 59-32. This was an all around great win, highlighted by a 28 point performance from incredible player Haylen Ayers, and great shooting from Lily Teague and Sophie King.

In the final game of this stretch the Lady Bruins defeated TRA 69-14. The Lady Rebels were completely outmatched in this game and the Lady Bruins showed once again that they are on another level. The highlight of this game was the chance to see the younger players get some more playing time and show the potential the squad has for the future.

On the men’s side, the Bruins struggled a little bit, but showed a lot of heart and determination. This stretch started out with a 60-55 overtime loss to TCA. This game was an absolute battle. The highlights of this game for the Bruins were a crazy corner three by Junior Sam Keyl to send the game to overtime. Keyl showed lots of heart all game long with great defense and three point shooting. Other highlights include a great game from senior Mills Terry driving relentlessly to the to the rim, great shooting from Senior Wallace Driver, and a great defensive and rebounding game from senior Noah Spencer.

In their next outing, the Bruins bounced back with a tough 51-47 win vs JC. This game was highlighted by another great shooting performance from Sam Keyl, another solid game from Wallace Driver, but most of all, an incredible performance from Reid Finney. He had great post moves, but the most impactful play of the night was the great charge he took to give the Bruins the ball back with only 9 seconds left. A great win for the Bruins that helped them bounce back.

Rounding out the week, in the final game of this stretch the Bruins barely lost to TRA 46-44. The Bruins had a tough shooting night and a very solid TRA team capitalized. The Bruins still fought to the final whistle once again though and showed a lot of determination. Even though this was a tough stretch of games the Bruins showed their potential and have some great opportunities to gain some momentum next week.
