Founded by a group of leading citizens to bring classical music to the City of Jackson in 1961, the Jackson Symphony announced its 58th season of performances during a press conference at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, Friday.
Arabian Nights is opening night, and will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8.
The annual – and popular – Starlight Symphony follows three weeks later – when the free gift to the community is held at First Presbyterian Church at 6:45 p.m., September 29.
Famous Four Notes – the overture of Mozart’s dazzling fairy tale “The Magic Flute” – will be held at First Baptist Church, at 7:30 p.m., November 3.
Holiday Pops kicks off the holiday season at the Carl Perkins Civic Center at 7:30 p.m., December 1.
Everybody Loves Somebody extends Valentine Day two days, when the concert is held at the Carl Perkins Civic Center at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019.
The Civic Center is the setting for the “Best of Your Memories,” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019.
Change of Seasons is the Season Finale at at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019.
“Everybody knows us from the Starlight Symphony,” Peter Shannon said. “A lot of people come to our Christmas concert, but the Jackson Symphony performs a myriad of other concerts – chamber music and classic concerts and pops concerts right here in Jackson, every month.”
Peter Shannon became the third Artistic Director and Conductor for The Jackson Symphony in the 2014-2015 season.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the musicians, because without the musicians, none of us would be here,” Shannon said. “The passion and the energy and the work ethic they bring is always is reciprocal motivation for me.
“I would like to thank our Board … we have a wonderful, wonderful board … that are giving of their resources – of all their resources, their financial resources – of their time and commitment.”
