A Tennessee pastor who was abducted in South Africa has reportedly been rescued following a police operation that ended in a deadly shootout.
The update comes after the Associated Press reported 45-year-old Josh Sullivan, of Maryville, was kidnapped at gunpoint last Thursday during a sermon in South Africa’s Motherwell Township.
Fellowship Baptist Church in Maryville shared a statement Wednesday morning stating he was found.
The South African Police Service confirmed Wednesday that a 45-year-old American pastor who was kidnapped at gunpoint was found safe. Officials said after he was abducted, the pastor was held at a safe house in KwaMagxaki, Gqeberha.
A multi-disciplinary law enforcement team reportedly arrived at the house and engaged in a shootout with three suspects, who were fatally wounded.
The pastor was found inside the vehicle in which he was abducted. SAPS said he was uninjured and remains in good condition.
