Week 5 of the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen brought mixed reviews from the panel which resulted in some shifting in the Gridiron Baker’s Dozen. One point separated several of the teams this week except Westview who remains the top team in the poll.

No. 1  Westview (5-0):  The Chargers continued to dominate another opponent in region play with a 57-0 victory against McNairy Central in week 5.  The Chargers have scored 256 points while only allowing 40 points on defense, both are tops in their region and among the best in the state.  Last week’s rankings: #1.  Next week: vs. Lausanne (1-2).

No. 2  Munford (4-0): The only team in Class 5A in this week’s poll, the Cougars continue to show they are a dominant force in WTN with a 38-14 victory over Haywood. This was Munford’s last game before they begin their region schedule, but they are looking like a team that will finish 10-0 on the regular season. Last week’s rankings: #3  Next week: vs. Whitehaven (4-1).

No. 3  Huntingdon (5-0): The Mustangs also continue to dominate opponents with a 37-0 win last week over JCM. Now 3-0 in the region, Huntingdon begins to separate from the pack showing why they are the defending Class 2A State Champions.  Last week’s rankings: #2.  Next week: vs. Gibson County (1-4). 

No. 4  Lexington (5-0): The Tigers defeated Chester County 42-7 to continue their region dominance.  The Tigers are off to their best start since starting 5-0 in 2013.  The Tigers also put themselves in great position in the region (3-0).  Last week’s rankings: #4.  Next week: vs. South Side (0-5).

No 5  Jackson Christian (5-0): The Eagles continue to show they are one of the top teams in WTN.  JCS defeated Fayette Academy last week 35-16 and now find themselves in the heart of their region schedule.  Last week’s rankings: #5.  Next week: vs. Tipton-Rosemark (1-4).

No. 6  Crockett County (4-1): The Cavaliers defeated Hardin Co 62-7 on the road in a region matchup last week.  Crockett County improved to 2-1 in the region and with another region game this week against North Side, the Cavaliers need this win to keep pace with Lexington.  Last week’s rankings: #8  Next week: vs. #9 North Side (3-1).

No. 7  Humboldt (5-0): Humboldt defeated West Carroll 54-0 last week and improved to 2-0 in the region. Humboldt may be a contender in Class 1A this season and can prove that with a region victory over Dresden this week. Last week’s rankings: #7  Next week: vs. Dresden (3-2).

No. 8  Covington (4-1): Covington defeated Obion County 64-13 on the road last week in region play.  The Chargers will need these wins to keep pace with Westview and remain at #8 in this week’s poll.  Last week’s rankings: #9.  Next week: vs. Ripley (1-4).

No. 9  North Side (3-1):  The Indians defeated Dyer County 50-14 last week in region play and moved up 3 spots in this week’s poll.  The Indians are 2-1 in the region and with next week’s matchup against Crockett Co they needed that win and next week’s win to keep pace with Lexington.  Last week’s rankings: #tied 12.  Next week: vs. Crockett Co (3-1). 

No. 10  Adamsville (4-1):  The Cardinals have a couple big wins this season already and a one point loss to Class 4A opponent Chester Co.  Adamsville continued to remain undefeated in region play last week against Lewis County with a 36-6 victory.  Last week’s rankings: tied #12.  Next week: vs. Tishomingo Co (MS). 

No. 11  USJ (4-1):  The Bruins defeated FACS last week 49-6 and improved to 3-0 in the region.  The Bruins continue to show why they are one of the top teams in DII and continue to control the region standings.  Last week’s rankings: tied #12.  Next week: vs. Harding Academy (2-3). 

No.12  Haywood (3-2): The Tomcats lost last week to #2 Munford 38-14. With their toughest game of the season behind them, the Tomcats will get back to region play.  The Tomcats are 2-0 in the region and will look to stay atop of region 8 Class 4A this week.  Last week’s rankings: #6  Next week: vs. Fayette Ware (1-3).

No. 13  TCA (3-1): TCA rejoins the Baker’s Dozen.  The Lions defeated Hardin Academy 52-6 last week.  With the only loss to #11 USJ, the Lions will look to keep pace this week with another region opponent FACS.  Last week’s rankings: unranked.  Next week: FACS (0-4)
