Investigators with the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office have identified Mark Anthony Springfield, 50, as the suspect in a case involving Ebony Fields, who was found semi-conscious lying in a ditch in front of 12694 Highway 70 West, with what appeared to be severe head wounds.
According to a press release, a warrant charging Springfield with Criminal Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder has been issued for his arrest.
Springfield was living with the victim at the time of this incident in Stanton, but also has a residence in Somerville.

On Sunday morning, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Haywood Co. Sheriff’s Office deputies and EMS responded to a call on Highway 70 West in Stanton in reference to a woman found in a ditch.
The victim, Ebony Fields, was found in the ditch in front of 12691 Hwy 70 West and was found to have been the victim of an assault.
Fields was seriously injured and was transported by Haywood Co. EMS to the Hospital Wing hanger where she was flown to Regional 1 Trauma Center in Memphis in critical condition.
