About two hours into the 29th annual Summer Celebration Lawn and Garden Show, a crowd of 1,200 were on the grounds at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, Thursday.
“I’d say 2,000 visitors will attend,” said Ginger Rowsey, University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Marketing and Communications. “It’s special because it’s a fun time. The number of speakers we have from across the state are knowledgeable, and everybody is so helpful.
“Our master gardeners help people shop, and get their plants to their car.”
The Celebration had 17 garden talks, and visitors were able to begin their day shopping for hard-to-find ornamentals at the Master Gardener plant sale, or visit an Exhibitor Tent that featured more than 40 local businesses selling plants, lawn equipment, garden art and crafts.
Rowsey said about 200 volunteers, vendors and master gardeners worked the popular event.
Helen Mullins, a master gardener from Jackson and regular at the annual event sold hydrangeas.
“This is one of the best programs UT Research has,” Mullins said. “To me, what makes this special … it’s all the plants, information, programs and enthusiasm. A lot of people plan their day in advance around this … It’s just a fun day.”
