DECA and BETA students from Middleton High School and Middle School avoided serious injury when a chartered bus carrying them to Washington D.C., began smoking about 4 p.m., Saturday.
The Madison County Fire Department responded to what was described as a mechanical fire, and the Jackson Transit Authority assisted to transport about 50 people to First United Methodist Church in downtown Jackson.
Once a replacement bus arrives, the trip to Washington will continue.
