Strictly Business – In case you missed it, here’s this week’s highlights

In case you missed it, here’s a look back at a few business highlights for the past week.

Buildings demolished to make way for Roundabout

The removal of three buildings to make way for a Roundabout on North Highland Avenue between East Deaderick and West Deaderick Streets – is complete.

The last of the three buildings – a facility that housed 2nd Chance Auto Sales – was the final structure cleared for the project, Friday.

The next phase will be utility work and the modification of storm water that flows from East Deaderick and West Deaderick Streets.

Pavement will begin in the spring of 2018.

The contract to build the roundabout was awarded to Ford Construction Company.

Eminent domain may be part of City Council meeting, Tuesday

Consideration of a resolution to implement eminent domain action to acquire property for McClellan Road improvements will be on the agenda when the Jackson City Council meets at City Hall, at 9 a.m., Tuesday.

The property in question is a bridge that will be widened from three- to 15-feet.

The length of the widening will be about 1,400 feet.

Five property owners have been offered fair market value for their property, but only two have agreed to the terms.

No dollar amount has been discussed publicly, but each land owner will be paid.

New restaurant coming to Lynnwood Place

American Wings is scheduled to open in four-to-six weeks in Lynnwood Place at 955 G North Parkway.

Huffine First Services from Madison, Tennessee is the general contractor.

The restaurant will occupy 1,800- to 2,000-square feet.

Officials with the company could not be reached for comment.

Jack’s Family Restaurant opens on North Highland Avenue

Jack’s Family Restaurant has opened at 3180 North Highland Avenue.

Hudson Construction Company of Tennessee built the 3,522-square-foot facility, which is between a Circle K Convenience Store and the Community Bank.

Restaurant hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturdays, and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sundays.

The fast-food chain restaurant is known for burgers, fries and milkshakes.

Jack’s opened it first location in Jackson, at 157 Parkstone Place on 1.31 acres near the West Tennessee Healthcare Sportsplex in November, 2016.

Work begins on O’Reilly’s Automotive Store

Management could not be reached for comment, but interior work has begun on a new O’Reilly’s Automotive Store at 877 North Parkway.

O’Reilly’s purchased the property once occupied by Pier 1, at 877 North Parkway in the Vinings.
Realty Income Corporation sold the 8,800-square-foot facility to O’Reilly Automotive Stores, Inc., for $595,500.

O’Reilly Auto Parts has stores at 3204 North Highland Avenue, and 1300 South Highland Avenue.

Leaders Credit Union opens on Union University Drive

Leaders Credit Union has opened at the former First South Bank building at 1490 Union University Drive in Thomsen Farms.

Business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays.

Leaders Credit Union has five branches in Jackson, plus a separate mortgage center located at 35 Stonebridge Boulevard.

Office locations are also in Union City and Bartlett.

Leaders is expanding into Gibson County after breaking ground in Milan, September 20.

The 15431 South First Street branch is expected to open by late summer or early fall in 2018.

Leaders Credit Union was founded in 1957 and is a full service financial institution offering affordable banking solutions for its more than 40,000 members.
