U-Haul Self Storage breathes life into former Kmart location

The property Kmart vacated at 732 Old Hickory Blvd., in October, 2017, may give the appearance of another U-Haul facility – but take a second look.

“It’s more than rental trucks and vans,” Mark Murray said, “It’s also a storage location.”

Murray, the general manager of the facility, said U-Haul Self Storage – Your Storage Place – offers 487 climate control rooms inside the 94,500-square-foot building.

“We offer rooms that are 5-by-5, 5-by-10, 10-by-10 and 10-by-15,” Murray said, “It’s key card entry, and there’s vehicle access into the building.”

Amerco, a real estate company in Phoenix, Arizona, purchased the property from JKM Corporation for $2,825,000, in August, 2018.

Amerco announced the facility would be converted to a U-Haul center, offering truck and trailer rental, interior heating and climate controlled self-storage and U-Box storage.

Additional storage buildings are being constructed on the east side of the lot, which consists of 9.83 acres.

“We wanted to make it something that would benefit the community,” Murray said.

West Tennessee Healthcare – Brenda Freeman named employee of the month

Brenda Freeman, a six-year employee at West Tennessee Healthcare, has been named the employee of the month for October.

Brenda was presented the award by Karen Utley, a WTH vice-president, and Charlotte Pruett, Director, Communications Center, when the West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

Brenda began her training as an operator, but a position became available at the information desk and it was clear this was where she needed to be.

Recognized as someone who knows how to deal with people, Brenda is gracious, kind, and does everything humanly possible to assist others, either when they walk up to the information desk or by telephone.

Many people have given her director and vice-president compliments on Brenda’s effectiveness in her current position at the information desk.

Brenda’s Christian values are evident in her work each day. She is such an asset to the organization and to her department, and WTH is blessed to have such an employee.
