In case you missed it, here’s a look back at a few business highlights for the past week.

Hucks opens Tuesday

Hucks Food & Fuel opens its second convenience store in Jackson at 7 Ridgecrest Road (corner of North Highland Avenue and Ridgecrest Road), at 9 a.m., Tuesday.

The 4,050-square-foot store will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Hucks introduced itself to Jackson, Dec. 19, 2017, when the company, based in Carmi, Illinois, opened at 1295 Union University Drive in Thomsen Farms, behind First Citizens National Bank.

Beer Board fines seven convenience stores, one license revoked for one year

The Jackson Beer Board fined seven convenience stores during a Show Cause hearing at the Jackson City Council chamber, Thursday.

The fines levied were the result of an underage alcohol operation conducted by Metro Narcotics, December 14, 2017.

Old Medina Market, 2800 Old Medina Road, had its beer license suspended for 15 days.

S&S Food Mart LLC (Airways Quick Stop), 223 Airways Blvd., had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $2,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspension will be lifted.

Z Food Mart (Super Way), 736 Airways Blvd., had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspension will be lifted.

Zaid Group Inc. (Gold Line), 1819 Highway 45 Bypass, had its beer license revoked for one year.

Due to a second offense, Express Mart, 26 Bowling Drive, had its license suspended for 30 days.

Ragan’s Fuel Mart, 412 Airways Blvd., had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspension will be lifted.

Mega Mart, 1400 Highway 70 East, had its beer license suspended for 30 days, but if a $1,500 fine is paid within seven days, the suspension will be lifted.

“It would be great if we didn’t have to be here,” said Charles Rahm, chairman of the Jackson Beer Board. “But our duty as members of the Beer Board is to eliminate underage sales.”

Construction on Waffle House No. 4 in Jackson continues in Park Place East near Sportsplex

Construction on a new Waffle House continues in Park Place East, which is located off Dr. F.E. Wright Drive.

A timeline for opening has not been announced for the fourth Waffle House in Jackson, which will be located between Taco Bell and Holiday Inn Express.

Waffle House, 1724 South Highland Avenue, re-opened Dec. 7, 2017, after the restaurant was renovated.

The company built a new restaurant at 2314 N. Highland Ave., replacing the original restaurant that first opened in Jackson, Aug. 2, 1977.

Waffle House re-opened the restaurant Jan. 2017.

Waffle House re-opened at 24 Casey Jones Lane, May 2017, after completing construction of a new 1724-square-foot facility which was necessitated because of the new configuration of the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass near Interstate 40.

The Casey Jones location first opened Sept. 8, 1983.

Le Bonheur Children’s Outpatient Center opens on Vann Drive

Le Bonheur Children’s Outpatient Center, 1535 Vann Drive, opened Tuesday.

Business hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The facility consists of 30,000 square feet, 20 examination rooms, and a variety of diagnostic services including lab, X-ray, untrasound, EKG, EEG, ECHO and pulmonary function testing.

A dedicated space is available for families to connect with a wide range of pediatric subspecialists.

Subspecialty Clinics include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, general surgery, genetics, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology and urology, with access to more subspecialists at Le Bonheur via telemedicine.

A grand opening will be held at the new location from 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Le Bonheur closed its center at 77 Stonebridge Blvd., Jan. 10.
