Lightning Source investing $22 million in Jackson facility; add 150 jobs

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe and Lightning Source LLC officials announced today that the La Vergne-based company will establish its fifth U.S. facility in Jackson.

Lightning Source, a part of Ingram Content Groupâ, will invest $22 million and create nearly 150 jobs in Madison County over the next three years.

Lightning Source provides a comprehensive suite of inventory-free, on-demand print and distribution services for books to the publishing industry. It offers publishers the ability to print books in any quantity and provides customers access to a worldwide bookselling channel.

Ingram will expand its presence in Jackson to include new print-on-demand operations alongside the existing distribution center located at 193 Edwards Drive in Jackson. The facility, Lightning Source’s fifth location in the U.S., will increase its global print-on-demand production capacity. Lightning Source is one of the world’s leading print-on-demand providers. Headquartered in La Vergne, Tennessee, it provides digital content to consumers around the globe. The new Lightning Source print facility will work in partnership with the existing distribution center run by Ingram Publisher Services, also a part of Ingram Content Group.

Since 2015, TNECD has supported 26 economic development projects in Madison County, resulting in nearly 1,600 job commitments and $567 million in capital investment.

MILAN Supply Chain Solutions, Inc., celebrates 50th anniversary

MILAN Supply Chain Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce the company has been serving the Southeast region for 50 Years this month.
MILAN celebrated the occasion at MILAN Cross Dock, 1980 Highway 70 East, in Jackson, Thursday.

According to a press release, the company started as Milan Express on June 16, 1969 with one tractor and has grown to over 600 tractors, 1,400 trailers.

The company also provides warehousing, distribution and brokerage services.

MILAN Supply Chain Solutions, Inc., is honoring its customers, suppliers – and most of all its employees, past and present, during this monumental month. MILAN employees 600+ individuals with the majority living in West Tennessee.

Jackson Energy Authority – Board passes 7 resolutions at monthly meeting

The Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors passed seven resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.

The directors approved the purchase of 2,000 Remote Disconnect Meters from Anixter for $170,000 ($66.30 each), and 2,000 Communication Modules from Tantalus for $132,600 or $85 each.

The directors approved the purchase of Distribution Transformers from Stuart C. Irby of Jackson, for $54,925.

The Board authorized a contract with Asplundh Tree Expert Company for the trimming of 34 electric distribution feeder circuits and miscellaneous trimming as requested per their submitted bid of $522,459.38.

The Board approved the purchase of 2,000 ITRON ERTs for the Gas Division at a cost of $124,320 from United Systems & Software of Benton, Kentucky.

The Board authorized a contract with JM Roofing Company of Milan, in the not to exceed amount of $258,376, which includes a contingency in the amount of $10,000 for the roof replacement at the North Water Treatment Plant.

The Board approved the appointment of Rowland Fisher to serve as a member of the Employee Health Benefits Committee for a five-year term, which expires June 30, 2024.

The Board approved the appointment of Monte Cooper to serve as a member of JEA’s Retirement Plan Administrative Committee for a five-year term, which expires June 30, 2024.

Elaine West retiring; sells The Bakers Rack

The search engine Google is incorporated as a private company, the University of Kentucky won the men’s NCAA basketball tournament, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the year at 9,181, $1.15 would buy you a gallon of gas and a postage stamp cost 32 cents.

The year was 1998 – and the date was Feb. 3, when Elaine West opened The Bakers Rack at 203 E. Lafayette St., in downtown Jackson.

The next chapter for The Bakers Rack begins when Elaine steps aside after Friday, after selling the popular restaurant to Allison Wright, Employee Wellness Coordinator at West Tennessee Healthcare.

“I’m really going to miss the customers and my employees, immensely,” Elaine said, “They’ve all been such a big family and a big help to me these last 21 years. We’re all care about each other quite a bit … and I really appreciate everybody supporting us for the last 21 years.

“We could not have done it without the customers, and they have helped us grow and I’m going to miss everybody.”

Apartment complex receiving complete makeover on North Highland Avenue

Jackson businessman FrenCherry ‘Frenchy’ Miller is in the process of turning the La Paree Apartments into Highland Crossing.

Located on the corner of North Highland Avenue and Walnut Street, Miller is renovating each of the 10 units, which will consist of two-bedrooms and one bathroom.

The total square footage in the complex is 7,500, or 750 square feet per unit.

“I’ve renovated numerous homes, but I’ve always wanted to renovate an apartment building,” Miller said, “I could take another eyesore in the city and turn it into a beautiful home for multiple families. This is a bigger project that could set me up for retirement.”

Miller said he hopes to have the project completed in 90 days.

“The color scheme will change, we’ll landscape and have a new parking lot and signage in front of the building,” Miller said, “I’m not patching a problem.”
