Greg Milam, State Farm Insurance Agent, retires
The memories in Greg Milam’s office at 1010 Greystone Square are just about all boxed up for the State Farm Insurance Agent, who retired Friday.
“We (he and wife Esther) had been talking about retirement for a while,” Greg said, “It’s the people I’m going to miss most. After 26 years, you get attached to a lot of the people.
“I didn’t realize how emotional I would be after several people came in telling me how much I meant to them.
“It is gratifying to know that I made a little bit of a difference, and that’s what I’m most proud of.”
But now, it’s time for the next chapter in his life.
“Volunteer work and travel,” Greg said, when asked about his plans, “I’ll work with an organization called ‘Keep My Hood Good,’ working with under privileged youth in our community.”
Greg continues to serve on the Board of Trustees with West Tennessee Healthcare, where he has been a member since 2010.
Greg, who worked as a manufacturers representative for Hunt-Wesson Foods, began working for State Farm at age 40.
“Twenty-six years ago I started my career with State Farm Insurance, and I’ve enjoyed all the years I’ve worked here,” Greg said, “All the people I’ve met, and all the families I’ve helped over the years … it’s been a privilege, and I’ll always remember them and be thankful for the opportunity.
“I have enjoyed getting up and coming to the office, but I also got to the point where I wanted to do what I wanted to do.”

The cost for the 2.5 million gallon elevated tank is estimated at $4.5 million, and is scheduled to serve current water needs and provide for future growth in the area.
The tank column is being constructed of reinforced concrete and the tank/bowl will be constructed of steel. The time of completion is expected to be in late spring, early summer of 2020, and the painting will be similar to other JEA water tanks.
