Friends of Heart – number of donated AEDs growing
According to a press release, Friends of Heart, a fund of the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation, along with Master Medical Equipment, Mid-South Heart Center, PC & West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center, proudly donated two automated external defibrillators (AED) in Paris, to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
This gift was made possible thanks to contributions from Friends of Heart representatives.
One of the main goals of Friends of Heart is to provide the community with live-saving resources.
These devices recalibrate deadly heart rhythms of a person who has gone into cardiac arrest. These actions can mean the difference between life and death, especially in rural areas where it can take EMS longer to arrive. The AEDs are simple to use and can be operated without a medical professional present.
Friends of Heart has now placed over 60 AEDs in public rural areas throughout West Tennessee.
Friends of Heart partners with the West Tennessee Heart and Vascular Center to meet the needs of heart patients. It’s mission is to be a community led and community focused group, ensuring the best heart and vascular care for West Tennesseans.’
This effort is designed to keep fundraising dollars local, serving the people of West Tennessee.
AEDs are a very important part of the total response to sudden cardiac arrest in the community.
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the US claiming approximately 365,000 lives in North America each year.
WAITR – New app allows customers to have meals delivered at home or work in Jackson
A user-friendly mobile and desktop ordering platform has arrived in Jackson that will make it easy to order meals from local restaurants, pay securely from your phone or computer, and have it delivered to your home or where you work.
WAITR (https://waitrapp.com/) founded in Lake Charles, La., offers restaurants a delivery service they previously could not offer.
“So far, we’ve been really well-received, and we’re closing in on 75 deliveries for Monday and (Tuesday),” Logan Williams said, “It’s $5, a flat fee for delivery (plus the cost of the meal), and it’s a great opportunity for the community.
“Our drivers get an hourly fee, and they keep 100 percent of the tips they receive.”
Logan Williams is the regional marketing manager for Waitr, which has locations in southwest Louisiana, Texas, Alabama and Mississippi, and Chattanooga in Tennessee.
He introduced the company at THECO> on Tuesday.
Williams said the company visited Jackson-Madison County General Hospital – a high traffic area, which has about 6,000 employees.
“We’re getting the word out,” Williams said, “Jackson could be one of the best markets we’ve ever had.
“We’ll deliver for free the next two weeks – order on our app or our web site, enter the promo code JACKSON, and we’ll deliver for free.”
Empire Theatre nears grand opening
Luxury best describes the new Empire Theatre – a new eight-screen movie theatre in The Columns II on Vann Drive.
From the way a moviegoer purchases tickets, to a concession stand with an expanded menu, and electric reclining seats with attached trays, this 21st Century-type Theatre offers more than the usual.
“We’re very proud to be here,” said Phil Zacheretti, president/CEO Phoenix Theatres Entertainment, “We’re getting close to opening – another month or two to go. A lot of the seats have gone in, but there is still a lot of work to do.
“We’re going to have an expanded concession menu … pub style with french fries, pizzas, Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, soft pretzels, Coke products and local craft beers.”
It gets even better once a visitor is inside an auditorium to watch a movie, with new electric reclining seats, in what has become the latest trend in movie theatres around the country.
All seats at the new theatre will recline, but the “Empire Theatre X-perience” will be the only auditorium in the Jackson area to offer recliners with armrests that will raise between two recliners to allow more space between the customers.
The “ETX” auditorium features the only NEC laser projection system in the state of Tennessee.
The 11.1 premium digital sound system will feature immersive surround sound, including ceiling speakers.
The “ETX” auditorium will offer both 2D and 3D films.
The screens will be wall to wall and the digital sound system will be of the highest quality.
“All seats will be reserved seating,” Zacheretti said, “When you order a ticket, three- or four days or a couple of weeks in advance, you get to pick out exactly which seat you want in that auditorium you want to sit in.
“Once you pay for it, it’s guaranteed to be there when you come to the movie that night.”
The theatre will have seating for 700.
Next concert on tap at Hub City Brewing, today
If opening night serves as an indicator, Hub City Brewing will become a destination for those looking for entertainment in downtown Jackson.
“It went great,” said owner Jerry Corley, “No doubt, everybody was happy with the activities, but there’s areas where we can improve.”
Corley said the 14,000-square-foot venue, located at 250 West Main Street, had a little something for the 520 people in attendance, Feb. 9.
There’s a tap room that seats about 100 and four bowling lanes.
Food is light fare, but Hub City Brewing offers a full bar, outdoor patio, projector screens and an assembly area with about 4,000-square-feet with a full stage, where Kenton Bryant and Jonathan Singleton performed during a sold out concert.
The music continues when Austin Jenckes performs in concert at 8:30 p.m., today.
Tickets are $10.
“We don’t want to be your typical concert venue,” Corley said, “But, we want to be perfect. It’s a good time, and for the first night, I would give it an ‘A,’ a great night.”
Beginning February 21, regular hours at Hub City Brewing will be 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays.
