In case you missed it, here’s a look back at a few business highlights for the past week.

Hucks Food & Fuel opens in Thomsen Farms, Tuesday

Hucks Food & Fuel opens its first of two convenience stores in Jackson at 1295 Union University Drive in Thomsen Farms, at 9 a.m., Tuesday.

Located behind First Citizens National Bank, the convenience store consists of 4,050-square-feet and will offer 16 fuel pumps.

The Thomsen Farms location, which was approved for a beer permit to sell, store and distribute beer for consumption off the premises when the Jackson Beer Board met at the City Council Chambers, Friday, will have 30 employees.

The store will be open 24 hours each day, seven days a week.

Management said a second Hucks location at 7 Ridgecrest Rd. (corner of North Highland and Ridgecrest Road) is scheduled to open in January, 2018.

Leadership Jackson holds graduation ceremonies

Thirty-one local business professionals graduated from the Jackson Chamber’s 2017 Leadership Jackson class on Thursday, December 14 at the Carl Grant Events Center at Union University.

Remodeling, new construction on project for Jackson Housing Authority

Remodeling and new construction continues on housing at 8 Kingsfield Drive, which faces North Royal Avenue and is near North Parkway.

“We have 16 new buildings, 51 new units, and we’re remodeling 31 existing buildings,” Jeff Brasfield said. “It’s a new project for the Jackson Housing Authority. Construction on the remodeled units is expected to be complete by late spring in 2018, and construction on the new units is expected to be complete by early fall.”

Jeff Brasfield is the president of Brasfield Construction Company.

The buildings – two-and-three bedrooms – are 3,000-square-feet, with an average size of about 900- square-feet for each unit.

The buildings are located on 7.6 acres and the total cost of the project is about $11 million.

REAL ESTATE – Market report for Jackson & Madison County

According to the Multiple Listing Service, new homes for sale in Jackson from January 1 to November 30 stood at 42, compared to 60 for the same period in 2016.

Total homes sold – 1,161 from January 1 to November 30, compared to 1,145 for the same period in 2016.

Sales for the month of November is 95 compared to 99 in 2016.

The number of homes on the market, which includes all of Madison County, stands at 356, compared to 412 for the first 11 months of 2016.

New development scheduled for corner of North Highland Avenue & Old Humboldt Road

BancorpSouth, George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home and Towering Oaks Office Complex are about to get a new neighbor at the northwest corner of North Highland Avenue and Old Humboldt Road.

Details are limited, but a vacant lot is being cleared to make way for an 8,000-square-foot medical office.

Bliss Salon moving to Thomsen Farms

Bliss Salon, a hair salon offering the latest cuts, colors and hair styles, is moving to Thomsen Farms, 409 C Walker Road, in February 2018.

Owned by Autumn Measley, Bliss Salon will leave 80 Innsdale Cove after eight years.

Bliss Salon will lease about 1,550-square-feet from FirstChoice Property & Development.

Mapco Express opens at 20 Johnson Creek Blvd.

Mapco Express, 20 Johnson Creek Boulevard (Interstate 40 Exit 87), opened Monday.

With parking for 35 vehicles, Mapco offers 14 fuel pumps for automobiles and four fuel pumps for trucks.

The 5,500-square-foot convenience store was constructed by Bosco LLC Contractor Services of Jackson on 4.12 acres.

Building occupied by Boot Barn for sale

The building, not the business, is for sale at 1775 Vann Drive.

Boot Barn occupies the 8,000-square-foot building on 0.9 acres, and The Boulder Group in Northbrook, Ill., has it listed at $2,333,333
