West Tennessee Bankers group presents check to FHU

Henderson, Tennessee – A group of West Tennessee bankers presented a check to Freed-Hardeman University Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, in memory of Bob East, former president of Chester County Bank. Funds were generated by the West Tennessee Bankers Memorial Golf Tournament.

According to a press release from Tajuana Cheshier – The Bramblett Group – East, Bruce Hamblen, retired president of Farmers & Merchants Bank of Adamsville, and David Alan Greene, senior vice president of The Plateau Group, Inc., started the tournament in 1986 as the West Tennessee Bankers Invitational to create a day of fun and fellowship for the area bankers.

Business Spotlight – Kristina Only – Only Photography

If a picture says a thousand words, then the profession Kristina Only selected does a lot of talking.

Kristina is the owner of Only Photography, which is located in downtown Jackson at 334 West Main Street, next door to Hub City Brewing.

“The building was perfect for me and something I knew I could easily maintain myself,” Kristina said, “It was instant love the moment I stepped foot inside the building.

“My friend and hair stylist, Becky Calhoun, joined me at the end of October. Becky’s salon, ‘The Stylin’ Station,’ is located in the back half of the building. We are two businesses under one roof. Becky and I have collaborated together for over 10 years, and I couldn’t imagine a better fit.

“The building has great character and I didn’t want to disturb that, so I just flipped the accent woodwork color to black and painted the red brick white for a bit of a pop. I hope to add a mural to the side of the building in the spring.”

Kristina, who started her business in 2005, was in the Neely House, 575 South Royal St., for 13 years, and she has been a photographer for VIP Magazine in Jackson since 2006.

“I’ve always had a camera in my hands since I was a kid, beginning around the age of 5,” Kristina said, “In college, I had an internship with Mid-South Color Labs and absolutely loved my time there. I learned so much about color calibration and photo editing and made some lifelong friends along the way.

“In the spring of 2005, I graduated from Lambuth University with a degree in Graphic Design … I’ve always loved anything pertaining to art.”

Airport Authority asks Boutique Air to withdraw from Jackson market

Department of Transportation and Department of Essential Air Services alerted

Jackson, TENNESSEE – Steve Smith, Executive Director of the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority, says Boutique Air’s missteps over the Thanksgiving holidays left him no alternative but to request their withdrawal from the Jackson market.

Dozens of travelers were left stranded by delays and cancellations.

“It has become obvious that Boutique Air’s expansion from the West Coast into the Southeast during the pandemic, worker shortages, and air travel restrictions just hasn’t worked out.” Smith said, “It was the perfect storm.”

“We heard from our customers. We are as concerned as they are, and they can rest assured we are taking every step necessary to provide them with a reliable consumer air service in the very near future.

“We have contacted Boutique Air, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Essential Air Service. The process for accountability and/or replacement is underway.”

Boutique Air was one of five services bidding for the McKellar-Sipes Airport Air Carrier business. They were recommended by the Jackson-Madison County Airport Authority committee, and the Department of Transportation selected Boutique Air for a two-year period from June 1, 2021, through May 31, 2023.
