Highlights from the August 2026 Labor Force Estimates
- The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee remained at 3.4% between July and August.
- The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States remained at 4.1% between July and August.
- The unemployment rate increased in 45 counties in August and was under 5% in 89 counties.
- Sevier and Cheatham counties had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.9% while Hancock and Perry counties had the highest rate at 5.5%.

Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 5 resolutions during monthly meeting
Jackson Energy Authority’s board of directors approved five resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.
“JEA’s board approved five business items today which included equipment purchases, an internet router network agreement, updates to wastewater facilities and placement of risk insurance,” Monte Jones said. “The board also heard an industrial update on a few different projects and a recap of a recent company-wide team meeting and a senior staff planning session.”
Monte Jones is the chairman of the Board of Directors at Jackson Energy Authority.
“Financial reports were reviewed and JEA’s fiscal condition continues to be strong,” Monte said. “Mention was made that JEA had not seen a TVA rate increase in the current cycle.”
Approvals and authorizations
A. Approved the purchase of transformer test equipment. Based on the comprehensive evaluation of functionality, support, safety enhancements, lifecycle costs, and overall value to Jackson Energy Authority, Management recommended the purchase of the OMICRON Transformer Test Equipment for a cost of $147,807.89.
B. Authorized a contract for installation of HVAC units at the Miller Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant aeration basin blower buildings. The Board approved a contract with Matlock Mechanical, LLC, based on their low bid of $133,911.
C. Authorized the President/CEO or his designee to enter into a three-year agreement with Plume Networks. The Telecom Division will pay a total of $483,000 to Plume over the three-year contract term base on customer growth projections.
D. Authorized the purchase of replacement service bodies. Knapheide Truck Equipment, Olive Branch, Mississippi, had the best overall bid due to price and lead time at $211,603.
E. Approved JEA’s placement of comprehensive risk insurance coverage through the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association – Distributors Insurance Company Program for the October 1, 2026, through October 1, 2027, policy period.
Construction continues on four-story, 108 room hotel in Park Place West
An opening date has not been announced, but construction continues on a new extended stay hotel – Candlewood Suites – at 2391 Christmasville Cove in Park Place West.
The four-story, 108 room hotel will offer 130 parking spaces.
It is the third hotel being constructed on Christmasville Cove.
Candlewood Suites by IHG is a hotel chain brand owned by IHG Hotels & Resorts.
The brand’s locations are extended-stay hotels concentrating primarily on rate-sensitive business travelers, also known as corporate transient travelers. Typically, corporate transient travelers stay only during the week, leaving the occupancy of the subject hotels lower during the weekend.

JACKSON, Tennessee — The Old Country Store at Casey Jones Village took home two of the most competitive honors in Tennessee hospitality last night, as the Tennessee Hospitality and Tourism Association (TnHTA) named Jonathan Jenkins its Restaurant Manager of the Year (Independent) and Ashley King its Restaurant General Manager of the Year (Independent) at the 2026 Stars of the Industry Awards, held September 17 in Gatlinburg.
The Stars of the Industry Awards are the highest honor TnHTA bestows, recognizing both the best individuals and organizations across Tennessee’s hotels, restaurants, tourism attractions, and destination marketing organizations each year.
Jenkins, Executive Culinary Manager, represents the second of three generations of his family to work in the Old Country Store kitchen, a legacy that has shaped the restaurant’s Southern cooking traditions for decades. King, General Manager, leads day to day operations at the restaurant, which has served Guests at Casey Jones Village since 1965.
“The awards may say Jonathan and Ashley, but they also belong to every Team Member who shows up every day to take care of our Guests,” said Brooks Shaw, third generation President and owner of the Old Country Store and Casey Jones Village. “Jonathan and Ashley lead with heart, and this recognition from TnHTA reflects the standard they hold our entire team to.”

West Tennessee Healthcare returning Labor & Delivery to WTH Henry County Hospital
PARIS, TN – Babies will once again be delivered at WTH Henry County Hospital. West Tennessee Healthcare announced plans to bring labor and delivery services back to the hospital, with a goal of welcoming the first deliveries in spring 2027.
The return of labor and delivery marks an important milestone for WTH Henry County Hospital and the community it serves. West Tennessee Medical Group has recruited an additional physician to join the Women’s Health team in Paris, an important step in preparing for the return of labor and delivery services at the hospital.
