JCPenney closing 6 stores in Tennessee
JCPenney has announced its initial list of stores to be closed permanently as the company tries to stabilize its finances under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The department store chain, the largest company to file for bankruptcy protection so far during the coronavirus pandemic, said it was closing 242 locations, including these six in Tennessee – Dyersburg, Columbia, Kingsport, McMinnville, Maryville and Cleveland.
The closings leave JCPenney with about 600 stores, including one in the Old Hickory Mall at 2021 North Highland Avenue.
Leadership Jackson accepting nominations for 2020 class
The Jackson Chamber is accepting nominations for Leadership Jackson, its adult leadership program. Leadership Jackson gives business professionals the opportunity to understand the community and its opportunities and challenges.
During the three-month program, class members visit area landmarks, meet with area leaders and participate in weekly sessions about topics impacting Jackson-Madison County, including education, health care, and government.
Applicants can fill out a nomination form online at LeadershipJackson.com.
Applicants must be a Jackson Chamber member, and a leader in their company or organization should nominate them.
They can nominate themselves if they are the primary decision maker. Due to class size, members must limit their nominations to one per chamber member.
The 2020 class will be led by Leadership Jackson Chair Russ McKelvey, Mack Pest Control, and Vice Chair Nick Hayes, Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling.

Old Country Store & Restaurant begins family-style service June 24
The Old Country Store begins family style service for lunch and dinner on Wednesday June 24, 2020.
Breakfast will be served family style starting on Friday, June 26.
A delay from the manufacturer of the new bowls and platters for family style service has resulted in the start date being pushed back.
The Old Country Store will use this time to continue developing new recipes and train staff to prepare for the launch later this month.
After serving a nationally recognized buffet for 53 of their 55 year history, Clark and Brooks Shaw decided to transition to family-style dining at the Old Country Store & Restaurant, May 25.
Pyros Fire Fresh Pizza opening on Vann Drive
Management could not be reached for comment, but Pyros Fire Fresh Pizza is preparing to open its fifth restaurant in Tennessee – its first outside of Memphis – at 1150 Vann Drive.
The 2,745 square foot facility is the former home of PizzaRev, which closed in January, 2020.
Pyros Fire Fresh Pizza has four restaurants in Memphis; one in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and three in Mississippi – Olive Branch, Tupelo and Hattiesburg.
