JEA Board of Directors approve 8 resolutions during monthly meeting
The Board of Directors of Jackson Energy Authority approved eight resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.
“The JEA board reviewed eight resolutions at the December meeting,” said Monte Jones, chairman of the Board of Directors at Jackson Energy Authority. “Three of those resolutions were for contracting or consulting services, three were for equipment or plant expenses, one was for banking services, and the other was for a customer service policy. All items were approved.
“Also, the board heard updates on the financial condition of all divisions and recognized some associates on their upcoming retirements. An updated organizational chart was reviewed that follows JEA’s succession planning for their management roles.”
The resolutions –
- Ratified the labor contract for the Owens Corning Unit Substations 15,16, and 17 Replacement Project for an updated cost of $347,393.
- Authorized the purchase of a replacement dump truck for the Gas Division. TAG Truck Center, Inc. of Jackson, Tennessee, for $127,577.26.
- Authorized the purchase of a propane delivery truck for the Gas Division. White River Distributors of Batesville, Ark., submitted the low bid of $229,620.
- Reaffirmed JEA’s Identity Theft Prevention Policy to comply with revisions of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act of 2003).
- Authorized an agreement with Aon Consulting to provide actuarial and administrative services for Jackson Energy Authority’s defined benefit pension plan and other post-employment benefits.
- Renewed a consulting service agreement with Robert W. Baird & Company. Incorporated as investment manager for JEA’s defined benefit pension and other post-employment benefit funds.
- Authorized banking services.
- Authorized a contract with Prudential for providing employee life, accidental death and dismemberment, and long-term disability insurances.
Melissa Spurgeon named president/CEO of Community Foundation of West Tennessee
Jackson, Tennessee – (Dec. 17, 2025) – The Community Foundation of West Tennessee announces the appointment of Melissa Spurgeon as its next President/Chief Executive Officer. Spurgeon will assume leadership of the nonprofit following the retirement of Dr. Frank McMeen, who has guided the Foundation since 2000.
Greg Alexander, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Community Foundation stated, “I am encouraged and excited for the next chapter for the Community Foundation of West Tennessee. The search committee has invested many hours into finding a final candidate, a decision none took lightly, and I am thrilled to have found someone right here at home. I look forward to working closely with Melissa. Her vision and direction will bring a new energy and passion, taking the foundation to great heights. We are encouraged and invigorated by this next step for the organization.”
Spurgeon brings decades of leadership experience in education and community engagement to the role. She currently serves as chief of staff for the Jackson-Madison County School System (JMCSS). Her career in education includes 28 years as a K-12 educator in Jackson.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Spurgeon maintains active community involvement as a board member of The Star Center, the Jackson Symphony, and RIFA. In 2024, she received recognition as one of Jackson’s Most Influential Women and the Community Foundation’s Jackson Award Recipient for Education.
Ronald McDonald House holds ribbon cutting at Hyatt Place; opening date announced
A facility that will benefit the children at Ayers Children’s Medical Center, provide housing for children’s families, offer a place for long-term cancer/hospice families to stay – as well as families of long-term heart patients – was introduced, Tuesday.
Located inside the new Hyatt Place hotel, The Ronald McDonald House – which will begin accepting families January 5, 2026 – held its ribbon cutting ceremony on the corner of West Forest Avenue and Lambuth Boulevard.
The hotel will be a five-story facility with 107 rooms, consisting of approximately 79,000-square-feet, and will include meeting spaces up to 2,500-square-feet, a full-service fitness center, an indoor/outdoor pool with a bar, a coffee bar with lounging area, a full-service commercial restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating, and an upscale business center.
The Ronald McDonald House will occupy the second floor and will include 20 rooms, a community kitchen and living area, as well as a laundry area for families who need a home away from home while their children receive medical care.
Previously, The Foundation placed families in homes around Midtown Jackson when they were in the community to be with their loved ones who live more than 50 miles away.
This facility will be located next to a large rehabilitation facility where patients may stay for more extended periods and across the street from a skilled nursing facility.
The Kirkland Cancer Center and Jackson-Madison County General Hospital are one block away.

Tennessee Truck Plant: On the BlueOval City campus, the Tennessee Electric Vehicle Center is renamed Tennessee Truck Plant. The facility will produce all-new Built Ford Tough truck models with production starting in 2029. These new affordable gas-powered trucks will broaden Ford’s truck family and extend its market leadership, replacing the previously planned next-generation electric truck.
