Jackson Regional Airport awarded $10 million State grant following legislative approval
Jackson, TN — Jackson Regional Airport is preparing for takeoff on its next phase of growth, after yesterday’s approval of Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s FY25-26 state budget. Included in the newly passed budget is a $10 million grant designated for the airport—marking another major step forward in its development as a regional transportation and economic engine.
The new funding will support the construction of vital infrastructure, including
- Two new corporate hangars, complete with dedicated parking areas, roadways, a new apron, and taxi lane access. These facilities will better accommodate business-class and charter aircraft, offering long-term storage and service space for corporate aviation clients. This is expected to attract aviation-related businesses to the region and strengthen Jackson’s role as a hub for corporate travel.
- A new T-hangar designed for general aviation tenants, including private pilots and aircraft owners. The project also includes apron space and foundational infrastructure for future T-hangar expansions, ensuring flexibility to meet increasing demand and supporting long-term service goals.
Together, these developments will significantly expand the airport’s ability to serve both corporate and general aviation needs, generate new economic opportunities, and support continued air service development across West Tennessee.
This grant builds on more than $35 million in improvements completed last year, which included a new runway, a fully renovated air traffic control tower, and upgraded lighting and navigation systems, which greatly expanded the airport’s capacity and readiness for increased traffic.
Jackson Regional Airport has also recently added TSA screening capabilities, enabling expanded commercial air service. Passengers now benefit from multiple weekly 50-passenger jet flights to Atlanta and Chicago via Denver Air Connection, providing reliable, efficient air access for both business and leisure travelers.
Understanding Uninsured, Underinsured motorist coverage in Tennessee
From Haven Insurance Partners
Understanding UM/UIM Coverage in Tennessee Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverages are crucial parts of auto insurance in Tennessee.
They protect you financially if you’re involved in an accident with a driver who either doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance.
What UM/UIM Covers
Medical Expenses: Hospital bills, rehabilitation, and related healthcare costs.
Lost Wages: Income you lose if injuries prevent you from working.
Pain and Suffering: Compensation for physical pain and emotional distress.
Property Damage: Damage to your vehicle, depending on your policy.
Why UM/UIM is Important
Nearly 20% of drivers in Tennessee drive without insurance, which is higher than the national average. Even drivers who have insurance often only carry the state’s minimum limits ($25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident for bodily injury, and $15,000 for property damage). These minimum amounts often fall short in serious accidents.
UM/UIM coverage ensures you’re not left financially burdened by another driver’s lack of adequate insurance. It acts as a safety net, protecting you from significant out-of-pocket expenses and helping you recover financially after an accident.
Legal Requirements
Tennessee law requires insurance companies to offer UM/UIM coverage equal to your liability limits, but purchasing it is optional. If you decide not to include this coverage, you must officially decline it in writing.
Tips for Choosing Coverage
It’s usually wise to select UM/UIM limits that match your liability coverage limits.
Tennessee typically doesn’t allow “stacking” of UM/UIM coverage, meaning you can’t combine coverage from multiple vehicles to increase limits. Be sure to choose appropriate coverage limits for each vehicle on your policy.
What to Do in a Hit-and-Run Accident
If you’re involved in a hit-and-run, immediately contact the police and file a report. Document any evidence and gather witness information. Notify your insurance company promptly to initiate a UM claim.
In short, UM/UIM coverage provides peace of mind and financial security, making it an essential consideration for every driver in Tennessee.
Convenience store rebuild continues at corner of Old Hickory Blvd. and 45 Bypass
Management could not be reached for comment, but construction continues on a new Goldline convenience store – with eight fuel pumps – at the southwest corner of 1819 U.S. Highway 45 Bypass and Old Hickory Boulevard.
Approximately one-half of the building will be dedicated to a convenience store with non-convenience store businesses occupying the remainder of the facility.
Goldline was destroyed by fire in May 2021, and the building was demolished in January 2023.
