Construction scheduled to resume on 6K Energy in Airport Industrial Park in June
Construction is scheduled to start at 6K Energy in June 2025 with production scheduled to start in mid-2026.
Construction was delayed due to the necessary redesign of the multi-phase project.
Due to recently signed offtake agreements, the phasing of the project had to be changed to accommodate the product line that was originally scheduled for later phases.
It also required Department of Energy (DOE) approval since their DOE grant was awarded based on the originally product phasing plan. The leased construction trailers were removed for economic reasons since they knew how long the construction delay was going to be.
The facility will be located in Airport Industrial Park on James Lawrence Road in Madison County.
Creating 230 new jobs, initial plans called for the battery material manufacturing plant to $200 million in the 120,000-square-foot facility for construction and equipment – a number that is expected to expand to $250 million.
6K Energy’s PlusCAM factory will be the world’s first UniMelt plasma cathode plant, providing low cost, ultra sustainable production of battery material for localized supply chains in the United States.
6K Energy – the world’s only sustainable production for battery materials – also has a production site in Pennsylvania.
Technology for 6K Energy was developed at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
