Community Foundation of West Tennessee donates $10,187.76 to support Jackson Animal Care Center needs
Jackson, Tenn. – The Community Foundation of West Tennessee presented the Jackson Animal Care Center with a donation of $10,187.76 to support the center’s mission and help provide a physical and mental enrichment area outdoors for the animals.
“I am so thankful for the Community Foundation’s donation through the Eunice M. Fishman Endowment and Susan and Larry Reasons Endowment for Animal Welfare to the Jackson Animal Care Center,” said Whitney Owen, Director of the Jackson Animal Care Center. “This donation is going to improve the resources that we have at the center for the overall health and well-being of the animals in our program.”
According to a press release from Haley Fortune, Community Impact Manager for the Community Foundation – this donation was funded by two endowments managed by the Community Foundation – Eunice M. Fishman Endowment and Susan and Larry Reasons Endowment for Animal Welfare.
“The Community Foundation continues to serve as a conduit, connecting donors to their passions,” said Beth Koffman, Chief Operating Officer for the Community Foundation. “It is inspiring to see the work the Animal Care Center is doing, and we are proud to connect our donors with the center’s work.”
Endowments are an opportunity for donors to create a legacy and support one or more causes that are important to them. This permanent fund allows the principal to be invested while a portion of the fund is distributed annually to philanthropic causes of the donor’s choosing, such as the Jackson Animal Care Center.
Construction continues on new 65,000-square-foot Amazon facility near airport
JACKSON, TENNESSEE – Construction continues on an Amazon ‘last mile’ facility in the Airport Industrial Park in Jackson-Madison County, which will allow the company to better serve customers in west Tennessee.
Neither a date of completion or an opening date has been announced, but the 65,000-square-foot facility located near Central Distributors, is being constructed off Highway 223 and Lager Lane in Jackson.
Last mile facilities prepare customer orders for delivery.
Amazon’s presence in Tennessee includes multiple operation centers and a corporate office in Nashville.
Since 2010, Amazon has created 24,000 full and part-time jobs in Tennessee and invested more than $20.5 billion in the state through infrastructure projects and compensation. Most hourly employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn between $17 and $28 per hour.
West Tennessee Healthcare committed to providing healthcare services in Henry County
Jackson, Tennessee – On Tuesday evening, July 30, 2024, the Board of Trustees of West Tennessee Healthcare (WTH) approved a resolution to pursue an innovative integration model with Henry County Medical Center (HCMC) in Paris, Tennessee.
The model includes the transfer of operations, a capital lease of HCMC’s real estate, and a commitment to provide certain healthcare services in Henry County. Once the transaction is finalized, the health system will begin operating as West Tennessee Healthcare Henry County (WTHHC).
WTHHC will offer eligible HCMC employees and employed providers positions, and will assume certain assets and liabilities. The transaction is subject to state regulatory approvals, and is anticipated to close on October 1, 2024.
“West Tennessee Healthcare leadership has been in communication with the leadership at Henry County Medical Center for months due to concerns for its long-term sustainability without a large regional partner. We are ready and willing to extend our support to help Henry County Medical Center overcome its current challenges,” said James Ross, President and CEO of WTH. “As dedicated healthcare providers, we recognize the importance of preserving the accessibility and availability of healthcare services within our communities, and we are committed to working together to find sustainable solutions that will allow vital healthcare services to continue in Henry County. Leaders Credit Union opens newest location at 1311 South Highland Avenue
Leaders Credit Union has opened its newest location at 1311 South Highland Avenue.
The new 3,469-square-foot facility replaces the existing location at 1291 South Highland Avenue – which consisted of 1,402-square-feet – to make way for a new parking lot.
Leaders has five locations in Jackson – 87 Murray Guard Drive, 214 Oil Well Road, 2673 North Highland Ave., 1956 North Highland Ave., and 1311 South Highland Avenue.
Construction continues on 5-story Hyatt Place – Ronald McDonald House – on Lambuth Boulevard
The new Hyatt Place – Ronald McDonald House – continues to take shape on the corner of West Forest Avenue and Lambuth Boulevard, near the Kirkland Cancer Center and Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
With a target date for opening scheduled for late winter, 2024, the facility will benefit the children at Ayers Children’s Medical Center, providing housing for children’s families, a place for long-term cancer/hospice families to stay as well as families of long-term heart patients.
The hotel will be a five-story facility with 107 rooms, consisting of approximately 79,000-square-feet, and will include meeting spaces up to 2,500-square-feet, a full-service fitness center, an indoor/outdoor pool with a bar, a coffee bar with lounging area, a full-service commercial restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating, and an upscale business center.
The Ronald McDonald House will occupy the second floor and will include 20 rooms, a community kitchen and living area, as well as a laundry area for families who need a home away from home while their children receive medical care.
At present, The Foundation places families in homes around Midtown Jackson when they are in the community to be with their loved ones who live more than 50 miles away.
This facility will located next to a large rehabilitation facility where patients may stay for more extended periods and across the street from a skilled nursing facility.
