- The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased to 3.0% from April’s 3.1%.
- During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States increased to 4.0% from 3.9%.
- The unemployment rate decreased in 3 counties, increased in 86 counties, and remained the same in 6 counties.
- Sevier County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.1 percent. Bledsoe County had the highest unemployment rate at 4.4 percent.

Community Foundation of West Tennessee awards $75,000 in Grants
Jackson, Tenn. – The Community Foundation of West Tennessee awarded $75,000 in Community Impact Grants to eight organizations at a celebration on June 27, 2024.
The 2024-2025 grant recipients are:
- All Saints Immigration Services – $5,000 – To fund its childcare project, which provides legal representation for immigrant children in West Tennessee.
- Boys and Girls Club of Jackson – $10,000 – To address the critical need for improved water safety and swimming skills for youth in Madison County.
- Habitat for Humanity Jackson – $10,000 – To aid in the building of two new construction, affordably-mortgaged homes for first-time home buyers.
- Jackson International Food and Art Festival – $15,000 – To commission a mural in honor of the festival that will illustrate the cultural unity and diversity in West Tennessee.
- Jackson Symphony Association – $10,000 – To fund its Music Academy (JSMA) and provide classical and performance instruction to youth across West Tennessee.
- Regional Inter-Faith Association (RIFA) – $10,000 – To purchase food for its Snack Backpack Program, which feeds hungry elementary school children on the weekends.
- United Way of West Tennessee – $10,000 – To fund its Rockabilly Readers and Skyhawk Scholars programs, which are reading incentive programs for elementary school children across West Tennessee.
- WRAP (Wo/Men’s Resource and Rape Assistance Program) – $5,000 – To support families experiencing trauma in the home through its Caterpillar Promises program.
New car wash still in plans for parking lot at Lowe’s on Vann Drive
Plans originally approved for a new car wash for approximately 1.05 acres on Lowe’s parking lot at 671 Vann Drive have been altered – but look for construction on Tommy’s Car Wash to begin soon.
The car wash will be constructed in the same area, but it was back to the drawing board following a shift of a few feet from where the facility was scheduled to be built.
When open, Tommy’s Car Wash will offer a 130-foot tunnel and 18 vacuums.
Leaders Credit Union sets date to open new South Highland Avenue location
Looking to expand its capacity to serve, connect, and empower its members, Leaders Credit Union is scheduled to open its new location at 1311 South Highland Avenue at the end of July or the first of August.
The new 3,469-square-foot facility will replace the existing location at 1291 South Highland Avenue – which consists of 1,402-square-feet – which will make way for a new parking lot.
Leaders has five locations in Jackson – 87 Murray Guard Drive, 214 Oil Well Road, 2673 North Highland Ave., 1956 North Highland Ave., and 1291 South Highland Avenue.
