Jackson listed in Top 10 Metros based on number of industrial projects
JACKSON, Tennessee – Site Selection magazine has ranked Jackson, TN, No. 8 on its list of 2023 Top Metros – Tier 3, which ranked communities with populations over 50,000 but under 200,000 based on the number of industrial projects announced in 2023.
Jackson was tied for eighth place with several other communities, including Cleveland, Tenn. In Fiscal Year 2023, Jackson announced one new company location and six company expansions, bringing in 747 new jobs and over $447 million in capital investment.
“This recognition reaffirms Jackson’s position as a prime destination for businesses seeking to thrive and expand,” stated Mandy White, Chief Economic Development Officer at the Greater Jackson Chamber. “Our community’s collaborative spirit and strategic initiatives continue to attract investments, driving economic vitality and creating opportunities for our region.”
The annual ranking, conducted by Site Selection magazine, assesses communities based on their prowess in drawing investments, utilizing a comprehensive 10-factor index. This index leverages data from Conway Data, Inc.’s extensive database of new and expanded project announcements.
Site Selection magazine, a leading publication in the corporate real estate and economic development sectors, provides yearly analyses considered essential by industry professionals.
Bowling Green, Kentucky, is this year’s No. 1 metro area by projects with 23, just above the 19 projects in perennial leader Sioux City, Iowa-Nebraska-South Dakota.
In a three-way tie for third there’s Auburn-Opelika, Alabama; Lima, Ohio; and Saginaw, Michigan, with 11 projects apiece.
Hinesville, Georgia, located just south of the Savannah area, comes in at No. 6 with nine projects, followed by the Permian Basin dynamo of Odessa, Texas, at No. 7 with eight projects.
Then it’s a virtual melee at No. 8 with nine communities tied at seven projects apiece, including two in Tennessee (Jackson and Cleveland) and two in Georgia (Albany and Valdosta).
Tru story – Hilton product schedules opening for hotel on Rushmeade Road off Vann Drive
After months of delays, a new Tru by Hilton is scheduled to open in August at the corner lot off Vann Drive on .40 acres at 1136 Rushmeade Road.
Amenities will include a 24/7 market and a fitness center.
Originally announced in August 2019, the facility will join Hilton Garden Inn, 1324 Vann Drive, the Howard Johnson Inn, 1292 Vann Drive, Fairfield Inn & Suites, 1335 Vann Drive, and Homewood Suites by Hilton (under construction), 33 Capital Avenue, on the west side of Vann Drive.
Raj Patel is the owner of the 92 unit hotel, which will offer approximately 48,000-square-feet.
Tru by Hilton is an American brand of hotels trademarked by Hilton Worldwide. The hotel brand was announced in January 2016.
There are approximately 230 Tru locations in the United States.
Tru by Hilton has five locations in Tennessee – Nashville, Knoxville, Murfreesboro, Pigeon Forge and Smyrna.
Final Act – former movie theatre coming down on Conrad Drive
Property, once home to a former movie theatre at 71 Conrad Drive, is coming down, and immediate plans will be for Golden Circle Ford to extend its inventory.
George White and Nancy White purchased the 37,398-square-foot facility – and property – from Cinema Management Group Inc., JayShree LLC, for $800,000.
The theatre first opened in 1987.
West Tennessee Healthcare – Laura Morgan named employee of the month
Laura Morgan, who has been an employee at West Tennessee Healthcare for over seven years, has been named the West Tennessee Healthcare employee of the month for April.
Laura works the day shift as an EMS dispatcher, and she was presented with the award when the West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Tina Prescott, EVP/COO, Joyce Noles, executive director, EMS Administration, and Kevin Deaton, Director, EMS, made the presentation.
Her coworkers say she is the epitome of a team-oriented coworker.

Townhomes in plans for Bancroft Place
The consideration of a revised preliminary development plan and house elevations for Bancroft Place subdivision – located off Old Humboldt Road – has been approved by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission.
Submitted by Shane Alexander, the single-family attached homes – townhouses – will consist of 40 lots and one common area on approximately 6.64 acres.
Business Spotlight – Beth Garner named partner at ATA
ATA, a leading tax, accounting, and advisory firm, announces the addition of Beth Garner to its partner group.

Beth has significant experience auditing defined contribution, defined benefit, and health and welfare plans. Additionally, she has provided consulting on plan improvements, mergers and acquisitions, plan terminations, frozen plans and correction of compliance failures.
