Construction continues on new Amazon site near airport
JACKSON, TENNESSEE – An opening date has not been announced, but construction continues on an Amazon ‘last mile’ facility in Jackson-Madison County, which will allow the company to better serve customers in west Tennessee.
Located near Central Distributors, the 65,000-square-foot facility is being constructed off Highway 223 and Lager Lane in Jackson.
Last mile facilities prepare customer orders for delivery.
Amazon’s presence in Tennessee includes multiple operation centers and a corporate office in Nashville.
Since 2010, Amazon has created 24,000 full and part-time jobs in Tennessee and invested more than $20.5 billion in the state through infrastructure projects and compensation. Most hourly employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn between $17 and $28 per hour.
The building, not the business – Kirkland’s distribution facility sells for $22 million
Details are limited, but Kirkland’s distribution center at 431 Smith Lane has been sold.
STRATO Jackson LLC purchased the 771,120-square-foot facility and approximately 53.68 acres from Exeter 431 Smith 2020 for $22,000,000.
The building, located in Airport Industrial Park near McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport – was constructed in 2004.
Leaders Education Foundation awards $55,000 plus for collegiate scholarships during 2024 annual meeting
JACKSON, Tennessee – Leaders Education Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)3, hosted its fifth Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, and awarded $57,490 for collegiate scholarships and to community programs throughout West Tennessee.
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve with this volunteer Board of Directors to oversee the Foundation’s operations and to partner with the Foundation’s management to ensure our mission of ‘Making Lives Better, Together’ is fulfilled,'” said Ron Hill, Leaders Education Foundation Board Chair.
According to a press release from Amy Lovins – marketing & public relations specialist – Leaders Education Foundation is continuing its five-year commitment to The READ Team, a program of United Way of West Tennessee.
At the 2024 Annual Meeting, Leaders Education Foundation presented a $20,000 check to help continue its mission. The READ Team allows volunteers to partner with students during school hours and under school staff supervision to assist students with reading initiatives weekly.
The READ team also manages Words on Wheels, or what is better known as the WOW Wagon, where they take books into various neighborhoods. The commitment and money donated by Leaders Education Foundation covers the cost of materials and resources needed in the schools and with training initiatives for the volunteers.
