In 2022, Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) and hospitals from across the state worked to provide optimal cord clamping to every baby born in Tennessee. Optimal cord clamping means that the cord was not clamped until the baby was one minute old.

This project benefits every baby born in Tennessee – term and preterm. But the project was also the first step in providing the best care to Tennessee’s Tiniest Babies. This project, which has a total of five bundles, is aimed at reducing the mortality for infants born at less than or equal to 29.6 weeks gestational age. TIPQC concluded our Optimal Cord Clamping Project* in October 2023, with 26 hospital teams earning banners for their work!

Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg were two of Twelve (12) hospitals to achieve a 5-star rating which consisted of active project participation including huddles and coaching calls, monthly outcome and structure data capture, data driven QI work, clinical change implementation, and reaching the state goal of 90% of infants receiving optimal cord clamping.

‘A warm and welcoming facility’ – Jackson Clinic-Baptist gives first look at new campus

Mark Allen, CEO of the Jackson Clinic, believes when the new Jackson Clinic-Baptist Outpatient Campus opens Nov. 14, the organization can concentrate on providing the highest quality, highest patient satisfaction, highest patient experience care.

“The importance of this facility and the importance of this campus to the Jackson Clinic and the providers of The Jackson Clinic really circles around the patient, who chooses The Jackson Clinic for their care,” Allen said, “What we wanted, and what we believe we have accomplished here is a warm and welcoming facility where you can park right up against the facility.”

Allen made his comments as Jackson Clinic-Baptist held its grand opening at the new campus, Monday.

Located at 145 and 155 Innovation Drive near Three Way off the U.S. Highway 45 Bypass, Baptist was selected to partner with the Jackson Clinic because they shared the same vision for developing high quality outpatient health services across West Tennessee.

Baptist was founded in 1912, and the Jackson Clinic opened its doors in 1950.

“When we started looking for a partner … we needed a partner who was likeminded, had a similar vision and a similar mission – and Baptist – being in West Tennessee for the last 100 plus years with their service to others mission was something that really drew us to Baptist,” Allen said.

Allen said the location was not only convenient, but perfect, for residents throughout West Tennessee.

“This location is a perfect location for where the preponderance for where our patients come from,” Allen said, “Madison County, Gibson County, Carroll County – we have primary care locations throughout Carroll County and Gibson County, as well … convenience for the patients, providers, staff, and I believe we will be able to provide a high level of quality care in this location.”

Surgeries and procedures to be performed at the center include gastrointestinal, ophthalmologic, gynecological, general, plastic, urologic, pediatric as well as ear, nose and throat.

Arrington Funeral Directors receive 2 prestigious NFDA awards

Jackson, TN – Arrington Funeral Directors is honored to be chosen by the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) as a recipient of the Pursuit of Excellence Award, and one of only nine recipients of the Best of the Best Award.

Official presentation of these awards occurred at the NFDA International Convention & Expo in Las Vegas on September 11, 2023.

The Pursuit of Excellence Award is conferred by NFDA annually to funeral homes that have demonstrated a commitment to raising the bar on funeral service excellence by adhering to strict ethical and professional standards and providing outstanding service to families and communities.

As of 2023, Arrington has received this award 12 years in a row, as well as the Richard Myers Pinnacle Award in 2021, the highest award bestowed by the NFDA. This year, Arrington was one of nine funeral homes chosen for a Best of the Best Award. As part of the Pursuit of Excellence application process, funeral homes must submit an essay outlining a specific program or service they offer that both exemplifies all elements of the previously listed qualifications and has had a positive impact on the families and community they serve.

After reviewing these essays, the committee selects funeral homes with particularly innovative programs or services to receive the Best of the Best Award. Arrington was recognized for the creation and implementation of ObituaryShare.com. Developed by Bob Arrington (president and founder of Arrington Funeral Directors) and Roy Heatherly (a 30+ year executive for Gannett Newspapers in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kansas), ObituaryShare offers a better method to promote obituaries across social media, targeting an audience made up of people most likely to know the deceased.

Once an obituary is sent to ObituaryShare, it is posted to the funeral home’s Facebook page; several factors are then used to strategically promote the post to users who are considered to have a high possibility of being in some way related to or acquainted with the deceased and their family.

Opening the link on Facebook takes the user to the obituary page on the funeral home’s website. The benefits are twofold: Firstly, the family can more easily see, save, and share the time-sensitive details of their loved one’s funeral arrangements. Secondly, the community as a whole can stay informed of deaths relevant to them and, consequently, become more connected with each other.

Bob Arrington said, “ObituaryShare was born from seeing the demand for a new platform to serve families’ needs by publishing obituaries in a better way. Extended family, childhood friends, and everyone in between do not have to search for the obituary on the funeral home website or Facebook page; ObituaryShare finds them.”
