Construction continues on 92 unit hotel on Vann Drive
Construction continues on a new hotel – Tru by Hilton – on the corner of Vann Drive and Rushmeade Road in The Columns.
Raj Patel will be the owner of the 92 unit hotel, which will offer approximately 48,000 square feet.
A completion date for the hotel is tentatively scheduled for late fall 2023.
Tru by Hilton is an American brand of hotels trademarked by Hilton Worldwide. The hotel brand was announced in January 2016.
There are approximately 230 Tru locations in the United States.
Jackson’s regional carrier Southern Airways Express sold to Surf Air Mobility
Surf Air Mobility has completed its acquisition of US regional carrier Southern Airways, and now turns attention to its fleet expansion and electrification plans.
According to FlightGlobal – the Southern California-based start-up said August 2, the deal closed “immediately prior” to Surf’s July 27 listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Southern is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Surf Air.
“We are now well-positioned to build a platform that delivers accessible, affordable and sustainable regional travel for our customers,” said Stan Little, chief executive of Surf. “Our public listing is just the beginning.”
Stan Little is a native of Humboldt.
Steve Smith, McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport executive director, said he does not anticipate any interruption in flights in and out of Jackson.
“I don’t see any change in the Jackson market,” Smith said, “We will continue to fly our route to Atlanta.”
Beer Board approves 2 special occasion, 3 business permits during monthly meeting
The Jackson Beer Board approved two special occasion and three business permits during their monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.
Fred Cunningham was approved for a special occasion permit for an event known as The West Tennessee State Fair, to sell, store and serve beer Sept. 12-17 at 800 South Highland Avenue.
Roger Vestal, representing Forever Communications, was approved for a special occasion permit for an event known as the 13th annual Jackson Brew Fest, at The Ballpark at Jackson, 4 Fun Place, to sell, store and serve October 28.
Hua Liang, representing Kami Ramen Bar, 1081 Vann Drive, was approved for a business permit for selling, storing, and distributing for consumption off the premises.
Teresa Moffler, representing Walgreen’s, 384 Oil Well Road, was approved for a business permit for selling, storing, and distributing for consumption off the premises.
Mittalben Patel was approved for a business permit for Midtown Liquor, LLC, 930 Campbell Street, for selling, storing and distributing for consumption off the premises.
Residents begin moving into Shadow Creek West apartment complex
Residents begin moving into Shadow Creek West apartment complex at 203 Murray Guard Drive, Tuesday.
Apartment units are one bedroom, one bath, and two bedroom, two baths.
The complex consists of 10 apartment buildings and a clubhouse located on a 12.7 acres.
Each of the apartment buildings will be three stories in height.
There will be a total of 240 apartment units, which will comply with yard, lot coverage and height requirements.
Shadow Creek West will offer 380 parking spaces.
Dunkin’ Donuts opens on South Highland Avenue
Dunkin’ Donuts – 1560 South Highland Ave., opened Tuesday.
The restaurant will occupy a facility once home to Hardee’s, which closed in October 2021.
Seating is available for 18 guests, and business hours are 5 a.m. – 9 p.m., seven days a week.
A third Dunkin’ is in the plans for Jackson.
When constructed, a 2,000-square-foot facility will be located at 2757 North Highland Avenue on approximately one acre of land, next door to Grease Monkey.
Dunkin’ is also located at 5 Stonebridge Boulevard.
