Leaders Education Foundation awards $5,000 workforce readiness scholarships to 5 West TN students
JACKSON, Tennessee – Leaders Education Foundation, a non-profit 501C-3, is pleased to award its second cohort with workforce readiness scholarships to meet their educational needs as they prepare to enter the workforce.
According to a press release from Maddie Steele – Leaders Credit Union – marketing & public relations specialist – the program awards up to $1,000 to students enrolled in workforce readiness programs or pursuing industry certifications through community colleges or the Tennessee College of Applied Technology. Application periods will open annually on December 1, May 1, and August. 1 for spring, fall and summer sessions.
“Enabling our community’s workforce development is a fundamental principle at Leaders Education Foundation,” said Leigh Anne Bentley, President of the Foundation. “Given the growing demand for skilled professionals in our region, we aspire for these scholarships to empower a greater number of students to embark on their careers equipped with the right preparation.”
There were 87 students who applied for the summer scholarship cycle from West Tennessee community colleges and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology.
The scholarship funds can be used for tuition, purchasing associated supplies, books or materials, testing fees or other costs associated with the program or certification.
‘Summer Celebration’ set for West Tennessee AgResearch & Education Center, July 13
Free Event Provides Educational Sessions, Activities for All Ages
JACKSON, Tennessee – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture is hosting their highly anticipated Summer Celebration at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, July 13.
According to a press release from Tate Cronin – marketing and communications specialist – West Tennessee AgResearch & Education Center – the event is free to attend and open to the public. The 2023 Summer Celebration will feature educational sessions hosted by more than 20 UTIA researchers, Extension specialists and horticulturists as well as regional experts on topics such as gardening, weed and animal control, plant health and diagnostics, turf management, pesticide application and more.
Specialists will also be onsite to provide free plant diagnostics and the UT Kitchen Divas will host cooking lessons inside the center.
“Summer Celebration is our biggest event, and the part most attendees look forward to are the talks and information sessions we have throughout the day,” said Scott Stewart, director of the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, “Each year, people come out to learn from local UTIA researchers and other experts who are donating their time to share what they know.
“This is the perfect opportunity to explore a variety of topics related to agriculture, gardening and more while having a great time at all the activities we have going on.”
New Popeyes will be constructed at existing site on North Highland Avenue
A new Popeyes will be constructed at 1921 North Highland Ave., following the consideration of a design review application by the Jackson Municipal Regional Planning Commission.
The existing Popeyes will be demolished to make way for a new facility.
Management could not be reached for comment.
