The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased to 3.4% in March from February’s 3.5%.
During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased to 3.5% from February’s 3.6%.
The unemployment rate decreased in 94 counties and increased in 1 county.

The real thing – Harrison pours his beliefs into Union University’s annual Faith in the Marketplace event

Frank Harrison, a fourth-generation family leader of what has become the nation’s largest Coca-Cola bottler, served as guest speaker at Union University’s annual Faith in the Marketplace, at the Carl Grant Events Center, Thursday.

Harrison, a Christian, incorporated the teachings of Jesus Christ into his message, which he uses at Coca-Cola Consolidated – a public company he desires to grow profitably while making a positive difference in the lives of over 17,000 employees and the communities they serve.

“I want our company to be honored and blessed, and that leads me to our purpose at Coca-Cola Consolidated,” Harrison said, “Our culture or our purpose is simply this – to honor God in all we do, serve others, to pursue excellence and to grow profitably.

Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 8 resolutions during monthly meeting

The Jackson Energy Authority’s Board of Directors approved eight resolutions CLICK HERE  during their monthly meeting at The Tennergy Center, Thursday.

“JEA’s Board of Directors approved eight business items today and heard reports on recent industrial announcements,” Monte Jones said, “JEA president/CEO Monte Cooper gave updates on some existing infrastructure projects and spoke about the Georgia Pacific and 6K Energy industrial announcements.

“Both projects could eventually be in the top group of utility clients for JEA.”

Monte Jones is chairman of the Board of Directors, Jackson Energy Authority.

Clifton Bros. BBQ opens in Park Place East

Peter Thomas has opened Clifton Bros. BBQ at 292 Parkstone Place in Park Place East.

“We saw a need for it on this side of town,” Peter said, “We knew Eugene (Pickett) was retiring, and (Reggi’s) was a staple in this town for years, and we hated not to have a barbeque restaurant on this side of town.”

Obviously, considering the business the restaurant did when it first opened.

“Very well, the first three days we were open we sold out of food,” Peter said. “A lot of blue collar office folks and interstate (40) traffic.”

Peter said the restaurant is named after a close friend, more like a brother, who passed away – Harold ‘Clifton’ Graves.

“My business partner is Scott Graves, and Cliff was his only brother … his younger brother growing up,” Peter said, “The name just fit.”

Business hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Peter, who also owns Hub City Deli, said Clifton Bros. has 22 employees and offers seating for 64 customers.

“You take care of your staff, the staff will take care of the customers,” Peter said, “It filters through to the guests.”

West Tennessee Healthcare – Susie Alexander named employee of the month for April

Susie Alexander, who works as an accounting manager in Budget and Performance Reporting for West Tennessee Healthcare, has been named the organization’s employee of the month for April.

She was presented the award by Jeff Blankenship, EVP/CFO, West Tennessee Healthcare, and Kimberly Jones, executive director/controller, accounting, when the West Tennessee Healthcare Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, Tuesday.

Susie has been with the organization for over nine years.

“Her co-workers say you cannot find a better example of the perfect employee than Susie,” Amy Garner said, “She has absolutely the best attitude about everything!

“No matter what her day brings, and some days it can be quite stressful, she wears a smile and has a kind word for everyone.”

Amy Garner, Chief Compliance/Communication Officer Marketing & Communications at West Tennessee Healthcare, added Susie is always positive and willing to help.

“She takes the time to explain things that she knows from budgeting software that are not known by others, and if she does not know something, she takes the time to figure it out.

“You never have to worry about getting a timely response. It is hard to have a bad day if you are around Susie.”

Construction continues on INSOUTH BANK in Thomsen Farms

Construction continues on a new 12,000-square-foot INSOUTH BANK in Thomsen Farms.

The full-service branch – which has not announced an opening date – is located on 1.4 acres at 1421 Union University Drive.

With corporate offices in Brownsville, INSOUTH BANK has branches in Brownsville, Covington, Atoka, Millington and Memphis.

Tennessee’s oldest community bank opened a loan production office in Jackson at 1348 Union University Drive in Thomsen Farms in July 2019.
