‘This was a long time coming’ – Select Specialty Hospital opening in Jackson-Madison County General Hospital
Select Specialty Hospital, which cares for individuals with specialized needs, including post-ICU patients recovering from chronic, critical illness such as infectious diseases, surgical complications and other conditions including orthopedic, wound or post-trauma, will occupy the fifth- and sixth floors at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Scheduled to open March 14, the new 50-bed critical illness recovery hospital, will be available for patients requiring ongoing treatment for pulmonary conditions, neurological disorders, cardiac conditions or renal disorders.
“We also do rehab, everyday,” said John Duemmel, “We are really high on the mobility side where we want to get the patient out of bed at least twice a day – some patients, of course, cannot do that, but we try to do everything we possibly can to get them going in that direction.”

Bed Bath & Beyond closes store on Vann Drive; electrical issues cited
Management could not be reached for comment, but a sign at Bed Bath and Beyond, located in the Columns at 1081 Vann Drive in Jackson, said the business has closed due to electrical issues.
It is not known if this means the store has closed permanently or if a clearance sale at the store will continue when electrical issues have been resolved.
With corporate offices in Union, New Jersey, the company announced the Jackson store would close earlier this year.
Extreme makeover at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport includes new runway
The McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport Authority Board of Commissioners made a decision not to delay a runway reconstruction rehabilitation project during their monthly meeting at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, Monday.
The reconstruction of the 6,000-foot long runway has been in the planning stages for five years, at an estimated cost of between $14 million- and $17 million, using state, federal and local funding.
“The project includes the runaway, new markings and paint, LED runway lighting, newly graded safety areas, new runway and taxiway signage and new precision approach-path indicator lights,” Steve Smith said, “This is the start of a new vision for the airport including a terminal rehabilitation plan which includes, a new terminal area with new hangars, and a new automobile parking lot with electric charging stations.
“Also being considered is a new airport name change, which will continue to incorporate the McKellar-Sipes name, and a new promotional video (which) will be shot in July.”
Smith, the executive director at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, said the Airport Authority staff has been working to acquire a new jet charter service.
Business Spotlight – Ron French joins Dynamix Physical Therapy as Certified Hand Specialist
MILAN, TENNESSEE – Dynamix Physical Therapy, now with 14 clinics throughout West Tennessee, expands its occupational therapy services with the recent hire of a certified hand specialist (CHT). Ron French, OT, CHT, has joined the Dynamix team and is offering occupational therapy services out of the Paris clinic.
According to the Hand Therapy Certification Commission, “a certified hand therapist is an OT or PT who has a minimum of three years experience and a minimum of 4,000 hours of direct practice in hand therapy. A CHT also must pass a comprehensive exam in upper limb rehabilitation as well as demonstrate continued competency every five years.”
French has a combined 25 years of experience as an OT and CHT, providing exceptional patient service skills with a demonstrated history of clinical excellence. He has been a CHT since 2005, certified by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission. He also has experience working with clients of all ages, assessing patients’ rehabilitative needs, developing treatment plans of care and goals, and conducting physician-prescribed OT programs.
Beer Board approves 1 business, 2 special occasion permits during monthly meeting
The Jackson Beer Board approved one business and two special occasion permits during their monthly meeting at Jackson City Hall, Tuesday.
Lizzie Emmons, representing the Jackson Arts Council, was approved for a special occasion permit for an event known as ‘Arts Backstage,’ for selling, storing and serving at The Ned, March 9.
Mamie Hutcherson, representing WRAP, was approved for a special occasion permit for an event known as ‘Denim,’ for selling, storing and selling at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, March 25.
Tracey Banks, representing a business known as Tri Star Energy LLC – Little General No. 3224, was approved for a permit for selling, storing and selling at 3804 North Highland Avenue.
