Leaders Credit Union spreads Christmas cheer throughout community with annual ‘From Leaders with Love’ project

JACKSON, Tennessee – Leaders Credit Union, a member-owned financial cooperative based in
Jackson, Tenn., spread holiday cheer around the community with their annual “From Leaders with Love” Christmas project.

According to a press release from Mary Helen English – Marketing and public relations specialist – each branch and department adopted a project in the community to give back.

Projects included donating to the Memphis Boys & Girls Club, Gibson County Carl Perkins Center,
Dyersburg Humane Society, Dream Center, RIFA, Habitat for Humanity, St. Mary Manor, Kirkland Cancer Center, and many others. Leaders carried out a total of twelve projects throughout West Tennessee.

“Our ‘From Leaders with Love’ project allows us the opportunity to give forward, in hopes to bless
others who are making an impact,” President and CEO Todd Swims said. “We are thankful that we, as a credit union, can impact our community in a positive way and encourage others. The best way we can lead is by example.”

Each branch and department were encouraged to pick a project they felt passionate about.

The results ranged from hosting a BBQ to raise awareness for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to packaging gifts for the Laurelwood Health Center. Leaders Credit Union released a compilation video of the projects ontheir social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube on Friday, Dec. 16, highlighting the projects in the community.

As of Dec. 19, 2022 Leaders has reached over 1,700 people.

“The camaraderie involved in giving of yourself – of your resources, of your time, together as one is immeasurable,” Swims said, “The ripples of a gift stretch deep and wide into the core of who we are.

“That is what ‘From Leaders with Love’ is about.’”

Jackson Energy Authority – Board of Directors approve 5 resolutions during monthly meeting

The Jackson Energy Authority’s board of directors reviewed and approved five resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.

“The Jackson Energy Authority met to discuss five new items of business which were all approved,” said Monte Jones, JEA’s chairman of the board of directors, “Included in the discussion were purchases of electric division and water system supplies along with an updated internet firewall and a new workforce management system.

“The new firewall enhances JEA’s internet service while the workforce management system will improve communications to clients through email and text message notifications who are in need of service repairs.”

Board members –

  • Approved the purchase of stock distribution transformers -65 pole-mount transformers in the amount of $142,750, 60 single phase pad-mount transformers in the amount of $195,660, and seven three phase pad-mount transformers in the amount of $121,200 from GRESCO Utility – all based on low evaluated bid.
  • Approved the purchase of 35,000 feet of AL Overhead Conductor – Stuart C. Irby submitted the low bid of $123,900.
  • Authorized the purchase of materials for Talbot and McCowat Street Water Main Rehabilitation project – Consolidated Pipe and Supply Company, Collierville, TN., submitted the low bid of $85,824.
  • Authorized the purchase of a network firewall solution from Palo Alto Firewalls for $220,316.
  • Authorized a contract for a new mobile workforce management system with Smart Energy Water for $63,625.

Business Spotlight – Mallory Cooke joins external communications team at BlueOval SK

Mallory Cooke has joined the external communications team at BlueOval SK.

In her new role, Cooke will work with community partners and media to share information about BlueOval SK.

BlueOval SK is the joint venture between Ford Motor Company and SK On to produce advanced batteries for future Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles. BlueOval SK will operate one battery plant at BlueOval City in Stanton, Tennessee and twin battery manufacturing facilities at BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky by 2025.

“I’m so excited to be part of the BlueOval SK team and electrify the future of mobility with innovative technology,” Cooke said.

Prior to joining BlueOval SK, Cooke served four years as public information officer at the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.

She spent nearly 10 years in television news before joining the health department. Cooke began her news career as a reporter at WBBJ-TV in Jackson, Tennessee.

She went on to work as a reporter at KFSM-TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas for several years before returning to WBBJ-TV to work as a morning anchor and reporter.

Cooke grew up near Columbia, South Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Boston University. Cooke and her husband, Chris, have two young children, Fitz and Babs.
