City of Jackson announces plans to purchase Jackson Plaza

Details are limited, but the City of Jackson is making plans to purchase the Jackson Plaza, which is located on the corner of North Highland Avenue and Old Hickory Boulevard.

“Aronov has been leasing the plaza from the Rosenblum family, and the property is owned by a trust, but I don’t want to be premature,” said Hal Crocker, CEO, Crocker Construction Company, Inc., “What the plan is for the city? I don’t know.

“It’s definitely in its infancy, but it’s definitely been a topic of discussion for years.”

Aronov Realty, Montgomery, Alabama, is the leasing agent for the massive 210,940-square-foot facility.

Locals will probably remember four businesses that once thrived in the aging shopping center – Belk, which is now located at the Old Hickory Mall, Big Star Supermarket, Super D Drugs and Service Merchandise.

Service Merchandise – the company – declared bankruptcy in 2002.

Peppy’s Car Wash opens on West University Parkway

Peppy’s Car Wash has opened at 101 West University Parkway, near Kroger.

The facility consists of 5,054 square feet and was constructed on approximately 1.22 acres.

Peppy’s offers 20 vacuum stalls.

Kirkland Cancer Center receives $6,100 donation from local automobile dealership

The Kirkland Cancer Center received a donation from Allen Samuels’ Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Hyundai, Monday.

This was a community wide pledge that Allen Samuels proposed to the citizens of West Tennessee. For every vehicle sold in October for Breast Cancer Awareness, General Manager, Melissa Elmore and her team pledged to donate $100 to the Kirkland Cancer Center.

They did just that – Allen Samuels donated $6,100 to the Kirkland Cancer Center.

Melissa Elmore said it was a great pleasure to be able to present this check to the Kirkland Cancer Center and Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Hyundai plan for this to be an annual event.

Renovations continue on office complex on Conrad Drive

MHDS is in the process of renovating approximately 47,000 square feet of office space on Conrad Drive off North Parkway.

There are eight properties – seven at Williamsburg Square, and one next door at 27 Conrad Drive.

MHDS is a private non-profit Agency serving West Tennesseans with intellectual and mental health disabilities through a variety of Day and Residential Programs in the Community.

Formed in 1972 and being headquartered on Garland drive since 1977, MHDS will be moving its operation to Williamsburg Square on Conrad Drive once the renovation work being done by Crocker Construction Company, Inc., is completed.

‘She will be greatly missed’ – Cheryl Thomas retiring as RIFA Thrift Store manager

What began as a six-month part-time position that turned into a 17-year ministry, comes to an end Wednesday, when Cheryl Thomas retires as the Thrift Store manager at the Regional Interfaith Association (RIFA).

“I’ve enjoyed my time at RIFA,” Cheryl said, “It’s been great, and while I will miss those I’ve worked with, I look forward to the next chapter in my life … church work, gardening, decorating homes and spending more time with family and friends.”

Commercial property on Emporium Drive sells for $4.6 million plus

Commercial property at 2116 Emporium Drive has been sold.

30 Doors LLC, purchased the property – which is home to Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen – from CH Jackson TN Landlord LLC for $4,674,536.

Construction continues on 92 unit hotel on Vann Drive

Construction continues on a new hotel – Tru by Hilton – on the corner of Vann Drive and Rushmeade Road in The Columns.

Raj Patel will be the owner of the 92 unit hotel, which will offer approximately 48,000 square feet.

A completion date for the hotel is fall of 2023.

Tru by Hilton is an American brand of hotels trademarked by Hilton Worldwide. The hotel brand was announced in January 2016.

There are approximately 230 Tru locations in the United States.

Subway closes Lynnwood Place location

Subway, 955 North Parkway Suite C, in Lynnwood Place, has closed permanently.

Owners could not be reached for comment, but a sign on the door said the restaurant has moved to 660 Carriage House Drive, the location of an existing Subway.
