Business Spotlight – West Tennessee Medical Group welcomes Dr. Cameron Michael

JACKSON, TENNESSEE – West Tennessee Healthcare recently welcomed Cameron Michael, D.O., Neurology.

According to a press release from Amy Garner – Chief Compliance & Communications Officer – West Tennessee Healthcare Clinical services – Dr. Michael comes from Birmingham where he completed his neurology residency. He received his medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN, and completed residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“Dr. Michael is a phenomenal physician who we are proud to welcome to the West Tennessee Medical Group Neuroscience and Spine team,” said Dr. Lee Murray, Neurologist with West Tennessee Medical Group. “He brings a great deal of experience, and we look forward to helping him serve the patients of our region.”

Dr. Michael specializes in neurology, specifically in treating migraines, stroke management, epilepsy, polyneuropathy, myelopathy, multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune/demyelinating conditions, spinal conditions, and Parkinson’s disease.

Business Spotlight – Deborah Leggett, MSN FNP, board certified in advanced diabetes management

Deborah Leggett, MSN FNP, has recently passed a rigorous examination that qualifies them as board certified in advanced diabetes management (BC-ADM) through the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES).

According to a press release from Tate Cronin – Content Creator B3 Creative Agency –
attaining this certification showcases Leggett’s expertise in providing people with diabetes in West Tennessee access to high-quality diabetes care and management.

“I became certified in advanced diabetes management to ensure that we are meeting the diverse needs of our patients,” said Deborah Leggett, MSN FNP and founder of Family Medical Clinic. “Diabetic treatment can improve the quality of life for patients of all ages. Construction continues on new hotel at Old Medina Crossing

Construction continues on a new Home2 Suites by Hilton, which is described as a more affordable, all-suite extended-stay hotel featuring contemporary accommodations and customizable guest room design.

Home2 Suites by Hilton is being constructed at Old Medina Crossing on property between Old Medina Market and the Residence Inn by Marriott Jackson.

The Memphis-based hotel brand offers an affordable price point within the extended-stay segment, targeting both business and leisure travelers. Launched in January 2009, Home2 Suites by Hilton was the first new brand introduced by Hilton Worldwide in 20 years.

Home2 Suites hotels are 100 percent franchised.

The property where the hotel is being constructed consists of 3.22 acres and was purchased by JHG Hospitality LLC from RMR Investment Company for $1.3 million.

The transaction was brokered by Eden Smith, Coldwell Banker Real Estate Now.

Business Spotlight – Christiana Gallagher named Financial Empowerment Director for city of Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. – Christiana Gallagher is joining Mayor Scott Conger’s office as the city’s Financial Empowerment Director and will join a cohort with four peers from cities across the country who are similarly leading their own cities’ Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE).

According to a press release from Kenneth Cummings – Communications Director, city of Jackson – the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE), a national non-profit, will support the cohort of local leaders as part of this new two-year Financial Empowerment Fellowship training program.

In this grant-funded position, Gallagher will work with leaders within the City and CFE Fund staff to launch and lead a newly established local OFE, both managing existing and launching new financial empowerment programs and initiatives.

She will also serve as the local government’s internal financial empowerment consultant, bring a financial stability lens to a range of related issues, and leverage their leadership role to ensure financial empowerment is central to local anti-poverty efforts.

Business Spotlight – Jennifer Lopes appointed vice president of academic affairs at JSCC

JACKSON, TENN. – Jackson State Community College (JSCC) President Dr. George Pimentel has appointed Dr. Jennifer Lopes as Vice President of Academic Affairs and will serve as the Chief Academic Officer for the college.

Lopes has been tasked with overseeing the development and implementation of teaching and learning policies along with reviewing programs and making recommendations focused on student success.

“Dr. Lopes brings outstanding leadership and innovative experience to our institution that will enhance our student’s path towards success,” JSCC President Dr. Pimentel said. “This appointment comes after a vast nationwide search of top-tier candidates. Dr. Lopes’ track record of streamlining processes along with developing cutting-edge programs and curricula stood out in our selection process. This appointment will prepare our students for the ever-changing workforce that our programs prepare them for, and I look forward to the impact that Dr. Lopes will make at our institution.

Lopes comes to JSCC from Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC where she was the Dean of Extended Campus and Online Learning. There, she streamlined critical operations processes to enhance student success, spearheaded data system enhancements to drive program advancement, and developed curriculum for multiple graduate and undergraduate programs.

Prior experience also includes serving as the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) Director/Director of the Care Planning Center and the Head of the Humanities Department at Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, SC.
