Jackson Energy Authority Board of Directors approve 8 resolutions during monthly meeting

Jackson Energy Authority’s board of directors approved eight resolutions during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday.

“Jackson Energy Authority’s board of directors approved eight resolutions in today’s meeting related to system improvements and a wholesale water agreement with Gibson County Municipal Water District,” said Monte Jones, JEA’s chairman of the board, “The board also spent time in a work session prior to the board meeting to discuss budgetary items for the 2023 fiscal year.

“Senior management presented budget plans that will be reviewed and considered at the June meeting.”

The resolutions –

Ratified the purchase of distribution transformers – Border States Electric, $124,755.40

Authorized a contract for the construction of Jones Creek Substation – Davis H. Elliott, $1,786,353.12

Approved the purchase of 1,355 residential & commercial gas meters – Elster American Meter Co., $346,809.65

Authorized the purchase of two 100 kW generators for standby power for the Water and Wastewater Systems during emergencies – $109,562.62

Approved an agreement with the Gibson County Municipal Water District – no finances involved

Authorized the replacement of the fire suppression system in the Control Center computer rooms – Kizer Fire Protection, $74,455.00

Authorized a contract with Spatco Energy Solutions for a fuel underground storage tank – $466,078.95

Authorized a contract with Delta Electrical Incorporated for construction of the Mt. Pinson Road Fiber Optic Re-Generation Site – $87,584.00

NOTE: All bids were lowest bids.

Unemployment rates for West Tennessee counties

Highlights from the April 2022 Labor Force Estimates:

The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee remained the same at 3.2% from March 2022 to April 2022
During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States remained the same at 3.6%.
The unemployment rate decreased in 12 counties, increased in 60 counties, and stayed the same in 23 counties.
Williamson County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.0 percent.
Perry County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.1 percent.

Construction continues on new Jackson Clinic/Baptist Memorial Health Care facility near Three Way

Construction on a new Jackson Clinic and Baptist Memorial Health Care outpatient center in Jackson-Madison County, continues at the junction of U.S. Highway 45 and Passmore Lane near Three Way.

When completed, surgeries and procedures to be performed at the center will include gastrointestinal, ophthalmologic, gynecological, general, plastic, urologic, pediatric as well as ear, nose and throat.

Diagnostic heart catheterizations will also be performed at the center.

According to The Jackson Clinic, the new outpatient center will give patients more choices, lower patient costs and shorten wait times for surgical procedures.

While providing greater access for patients in surrounding communities, the outpatient center will also create new jobs and generate additional revenue for the city and county.

Outpatient surgery centers have become an increasingly popular option for surgeries that do not require an overnight hospital stay.

Southern Airways Express begins daily departures from McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, June 1

Jackson, TENNESSEE – With an understanding of rebuilding community air service, Southern Airways Express begins flying out of McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport, June 1.

Stan Little, who serves as Southern Airways Chairman and CEO, is a native of Humboldt.

The U.S. Department of Transportation selected Southern Airways Express LLC (Southern Airways) to provide Essential Air Service (EAS) at Jackson, Tennessee for a two-year period from June 1, 2022, to May 31, 2024.

Business Spotlight – Jones Family of Companies welcomes return of 3rd generation Jones associate as new COO

HUMBOLDT, TENNESSEE – The Jones Family of Companies continues to grow and improve its operations while strengthening its position as a nonwoven manufacturing leader. The most recent step in this mission is the re-hiring of West Tennessee native, Scott Butler as their new Chief Operating Officer.

According to a press release from – Katherine Cagle, Younger Associates – Scott was born in Jackson and raised in Humboldt. He earned his undergraduate degree at Union University in Organizational Leadership and his MBA at UT Knoxville.

Butler is a third generation Jones associate, following in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents where his father spent 43 years. Scott began his career at Jones in 1992 on the third shift running yarn equipment on the plant floor.

After mastering all the equipment, he moved into maintenance, serving as Maintenance Supervisor, ISO Lead Auditor, Pant Management, Quality Manager, Operations Manager, and vice president of operations.
