‘Multiplying Good’ honors local recipients, selects winner to compete nationally

JACKSON, Tennessee – Leaders Credit Union and WBBJ-TV hosted the Annual Multiplying Good press conference for the 2021-2022 West Tenn. recipients on Thurs., April 21, at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. Jerry Privitt, chief and co-founder of Humboldt Area Rescue Squad EMS, was selected as the West Tennessee national nominee for the 2022 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Service Benefiting Local Communities.

For the fifth year, Leaders Credit Union has partnered with WBBJ-TV to bring Multiplying Good’s Jefferson Award to the West Tennessee community. The Jefferson Awards honors community champions who are “ordinary people doing extraordinary things without expectation of recognition.”

The awards are given at both national and local levels. Since May 2018, a new honoree has been selected each month locally. Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by the Jefferson Awards/Multiplying Good committee members of West Tennessee. Our 2021-2022 West Tennessee winners include: CLICK HERE

Award recipients are volunteers and champions for numerous charities and causes across West Tennessee, including youth mentorships, community events, elderly service, homeless service, animal rescue, emergency response, and beyond. Jerry Privitt of Humboldt, Tenn., was selected as the West Tenn. national nominee for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award representing the greatest possible service to a local community by a private citizen. The national Jefferson Awards event will occur in June, presented in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Privitt is the co-founder and chief of the Humboldt Area Rescue Squad, a volunteer emergency rescue team dedicated to the Humboldt Community. Privitt began the Rescue Squad over thirty years ago and has devoted his time and livelihood as the first responder to thousands of calls for assistance.

Unemployment rates for West Tennessee counties

Highlights from the March 2022 Labor Force Estimates:

The Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for Tennessee decreased from 3.4 percent in February 2022 to 3.2 percent in March 2022.
During the same time period, the Seasonally Adjusted Unemployment Rate for the United States decreased from 3.8 percent to 3.6 percent.
The unemployment rate decreased in 92 counties, increased in 2 counties, and stayed the same in 1 county.
Moore County had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.9 percent.
Cocke County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.2 percent.

Construction continues on Doctor Suds III in Park Place West

Construction continues on a new state of the art car wash – Doctor Suds III – on 1.47 acres next to Sonic, in Park Place West.

An opening date has not been announced, but vehicles will be washed in a 150-foot tunnel and the company will offer 33 vacuum cleaners.

Pam Watson, Savannah, Ga., is the owner.

Eden Smith of Coldwell Banker Barnes in Jackson facilitated the purchase of this lot.

Construction continues on new Goodyear facility at 37 Tyre Cove

Construction continues for a new Goodyear retread and commercial tire facility for 18-wheelers at 37 Tyre Cove.

Tyre Cove is off Kenworth Boulevard – west of Pilot Travel Center.

Josh LeFevre Construction, LLC is building the 65,000-square-foot facility which is scheduled to open May 1.

Three service bays will be available and a retread plant will be in the back of the building.

An opening date has not been announced, but construction continues on a new Marco’s Pizza, 1683 South Highland Avenue.

The new 1,200-square-foot facility will be drive-thru- and pickup only without dine-in.

Kelly Richardson Investments purchased 1.4 acres from Brenda Matthews Bruhn Trust – Garey Matthews Winifred Trust – for $395,000.

Marco’s is also located at 1146 Vann Drive.

Eden Smith – Coldwell Banker Barnes – represented both the developers, property owner and tenant.

Toyota investing $36 million in Jackson facility; $383 million in total U.S. production

PLANO, Texas – Advancing the company’s commitment to vehicle electrification, Toyota will invest $383 million in four of its U.S. manufacturing plants that build the heart of new Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The new investment supports the production of four-cylinder engines, including options for hybrid electric vehicles, at its Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee plants.

“Toyota customers want vehicles that are fuel-efficient and electrified,” said Norm Bafunno, senior vice president, Unit Manufacturing and Engineering, Toyota. “These investments allow us to meet customer needs and quickly respond to an evolving market. We are committed to investing in the U.S., and our teams are ready to take on this new challenge.”

Jackson, Tenn., $36 million

Toyota Tennessee will update equipment to build new four-cylinder engine blocks. The plant has the capacity to produce more than 2 million engine blocks annually and represents a $425 million investment.
