Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, has appointed State Rep. Chris Todd as chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee for the 113th General Assembly.
Todd represents House District 73, which includes part of Madison County.
“Chris Todd is a strong conservative leader in the Tennessee House of Representatives,” said Speaker Sexton. “His knowledge, dedication, and advocacy on behalf of our farmers and the agriculture industry make him the perfect choice to chair the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; I appreciate Rep. Todd agreeing to serve in this important leadership role.”
The 17-member committee is empowered with legislative oversight for all laws pertaining to energy, forestry, natural resources, conservation, game and fish, as well as mines and minerals. Additionally, committee members oversee all environmental-related matters, parks and recreation, public lands, public and geological surveys, watershed districts, soil conservation issues, flood and drainage projects, military parks, battlefields, and tourism.
“I am extremely honored that Speaker Sexton has entrusted me to serve as chairman of this important committee,” Todd said. “Agriculture and our natural resources are vital to Tennessee and its future. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to address the complex issues and needs that exist in these areas across our great state.”
First elected in 2018, Todd, a Republican, is serving his third term representing House District 73. During this legislative session, he will also serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee, Civil Justice Committee, Civil Justice Subcommittee, Education Instruction Committee and the Calendar and Rules Committee.
The 113th Tennessee General Assembly officially convened on Jan. 10. Committee assignments were announced on Jan. 12.
