Shirley Jones – a Key to the City’s success

Shirley Jones makes it official when she retires February 28, but not before Jerry Gist, mayor of the City of Jackson proclaimed Tuesday – “Shirley Jones Day,” and presented her with a “Key to the City.”

Shirley, the vice president of public affairs at the Jackson Chamber, has been recognized by the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce for excellence in governmental affairs.

A volunteer at the Jackson Chamber before embarking on a 24-year career with the organization, she has worked closely with elected officials and government entities at the local, state and federal level.

She has organized activities of the Chamber’s largest group of volunteers – the Ambassadors – coordinating individual member events, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings and grand openings.

“I was just really honored today to get a proclamation from the City of Jackson, and also the Key to the City, which is really special,” Shirley said. “Because like the Mayor said, it’s only for kings and queens and people like that (laughing).

“I’m enjoying all of my farewell tour, I guess … looking forward to retirement and loving on my grandbabies, but I will miss being a part of all the wonderful things that are going on in Jackson.”

A public reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., February 21 at the Jackson Chamber.
