Madison County Sheriff John Mehr reported that deputies responded to a call at 5:02 p.m., Tuesday at 146 Cane Creek Road, off Riverside Drive, in Jackson.
Upon arrival EMS was on the scene and a three-year old female child was unresponsive. EMS transported her to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where the child was pronounced deceased.
According to a press release, MCSO Investigators were called in to the cause of death and the MCSO Victim Coordinators to work with the family.
This is a suspicious death, and the child has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy.
The case is being jointly being worked by the MCSO and the TBI (Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
District Attorney General Jody Pickens has been notified.
At this time, no names have been released and the Sheriff is asking the public for any assistance they may be able to contribute to solving this case.
Four children were in the home, their ages 2, 3, 4 and 7. Three were girls and a 2-year-old boy. The four-year-old girl was first taken to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and then transferred to LeBonheur in Memphis suffering from malnutrition.
The other two children do not appear to have any health issues at this time.
